Match Reports
Under 10 Purple vs East Brighton (R14)- In our final game for the year coming up against one of the top three teams in our division we went into this game as if it was our Grand Final. We had a record of one win each with East Brighton so far this year in two closely fought battles, so we were keen to show our best this round. It is always useful when the opposition wins the toss and elects to kick into the wind. We made the most of this opportunity presented to us by keeping the Vampires under constant pressure throughout the quarter peppering the goals regularly. Lachie Nolan was very active, peppering them more than once, but only able to put through for three… Continue Reading...

Under 10 Purple vs Waverley Park Hawks (R12)- We went into this week’s contest expecting an easier game because we were coming up against one of the developing teams in our division, in Waverley Park Hawks. However, it was not the result on the scoreboard that was the most significant event to come out of the game. We had accounted for the Hawks quite easily in the first encounter but this week they showed how far they had come over the season and threw the challenge out to our boys in the first quarter. Although they were unable to score themselves they managed to hold us to just 2 points. At quarter time I asked the team what they thought was going on and they identified that the… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Purple vs South Melbourne (R11)- It was a rude awakening from our school holidays slumber with an 8.30 start. It was a game of 2 definite halves this week where we controlled the ball and attacked for most of the first half and then had to defend stoutly for most of the second. Throughout the first half the spent a lot of time in our forward half due to the good work of our midfield. Jack, Sunny, Sebastian, Joe and Campbell in the midfield kept on pushing that ball back into our forward line which allowed goals from Alex, Hugo and two from Dom. His second spectacularly selling a dummy to his opponent on the mark and running around him and slotting it through. The… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Purple vs St Kilda City (R10)- The boys were switched right on this week and they got busy early with Paddy kicking us two goals and threatening to kick a few more also setting up Harvey to take a spectacular mark in the goal square to slot through our third. Kai Hotton, helping us out from the under 9s, set the tone for the day early on with his desperation for the ball and manic tackling that he kept up throughout the whole game. Hugo made the most of the wide ground getting out by himself in the backline and getting plenty of possessions and taking a great overhead mark to boot. In the second term, our captain for the day, Domenic Todarello, was starting to… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Purple vs East Brighton Vampires (R9)- The boys faced some unfamiliar conditions for the first time this year with the short ground, the cold weather and the water overhead and underfoot. They met the challenge well coming up against a team that seemed well matched to us. Early on both teams adapted well to the conditions moving the ball well despite all the water on the ground. The teams appeared well matched despite having to battle a couple of taller Vampires in the midfield. Lachie and Campbell both scored goals for us in the first quarter taking us to quarter time just ahead. The second term was very close. Despite the poor conditions for football both teams were demonstrating some good tackling and teamwork. Sunny King… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Purple vs Beaumaris (R8)- For the second week in a row we came up against a team that was not as well developed as our boys but importantly they paid them the respect that every team deserves. And although it was fairly quiet for those in the backline when every boy got their chance today they got involved in the game. Today our Captain was Josh Marshall and he was assisted as Vice-captain by Jaxen Gordon. We also had two boys, Angus and Ethan, who come straight from the under 9s in the game before us to help us out today. We started off the game solidly with Josh Marshall and Sunny King dominating the midfield repeatedly sending the ball forward. Will Boyd-Turner kicked… Continue Reading...

Under 10 Purple vs South Melbourne (R6)- This week’s game felt like one that got away. After easily accounting for South Melbourne in our first game of the year they turned up much better prepared this time. The first quarter was a very even affair with our boys controlling the ball but South Melbourne made the most of their opportunities and just managed to outscore us. With Seb, Paddy and Dom tackling hard and Sunny dominating in the ruck we were holding our own throughout the quarter. Paddy and Josh Marshall delivered the 2 goals for us. For the second and third quarters we managed to hold South Melbourne scoreless and looked like we were cruising (and that was not a Hewitt pun!). Unfortunately, we were not… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Purple vs East Brighton Vampires (R4)- It was an early start for us this morning. So while the boys were kicking the dew off the ground during their warm up some of the parents were plucking the poo off the ground trying to keep warm. After last week’s big win the group was just a little bit cocky before the game sizing up the opposition and perhaps underestimating them from their size. It was quite a rude awakening for the team when we were being beaten out of the midfield and the ball spending most of the quarter in the Vampire’s forward line. It was only due to some strong defensive work from Sunny King, Josh Meikle and Campbell Holtham that held East Brighton to just… Continue Reading...
