Under 8 Red vs Mordi Brae (R4) - We arrived at the Walter Galt Reserve for the game against Mordi Braeside with the ground bathed in bright sunshine and warmth - surely the last weather like that for a while! We had enjoyed the opportunity for a Sunday sleep-in given the unusual 10:45am start time. The boys were looking sharp during the warm-up and are settling into the weekly rituals of game day. Our eager captains for the day were Will and Thomas who’s faces both lit up when they’re names were announced for the days honour. In each game so far, the boys who have led us as captains on game day have had fantastic individual games and today was no different. It’s rewarding to see the… Continue Reading...
Under 8 Red vs East Malvern (R3) - A beautiful calm day arrived for our game against East Malvern Knights. The boys all told me they had been up early making their Mum’s favourite breakfasts of tea, coffee, toast or porridge, and helping by getting their own footy gear ready - what little angels they all are! Between making cards, wrapping presents and giving lots of hugs, they all arrived on time for the early game at Castlefield. Darcy and Harrison N were the captains for the day. Both have been training really hard during the week and putting that into some great performances on the weekends. Whilst they didn’t win the toss, it made no difference in benign conditions and we were ready to go. It was… Continue Reading...
Under 8 Red vs East Brighton (R2) - Our captains for the day, Liam H and Harvey, won the toss and with no wind to speak of, and chose their favoured end with the intent to get first blood in the game at Hurlingham Park against the East Brighton Vampires. The boys got off to a great early start again in the first quarter with George driving the ball forward and Tom being able to get onto a loose ball and snap a great goal to open the scoring. We had spoken during the week about creating space and leading – and the boys were up for the challenge. Freddie and Marlon ran hard to get into position and as a result were able to take some excellent… Continue Reading...
Under 8 Red vs East Sandingham (R1) - A drizzly grey Melbourne Autumn day greeted us for our first game of 2019, but our spirits couldn't be higher. The boys were very excited to be playing their first ever game of football and all parents, officials and volunteers were equally eager to see the boys have a great game. We had the privilege to open the new clubrooms at Castlefield and what great facilities they are!! As the kids arrived, the coffee van started to kick into gear to get the parents bright-eyed and ready to go to cheer on the game on the first proper cold weekend of the year. Our two captains, Lachie and Cooper, won the toss and elected to kick with the breeze down… Continue Reading...
