We were up for an early start Sunday morning to get our under 10 squad photos. The club has grouped the year levels as one team. We train together, socialise together and support one another together. So with the brushes put away we had a couple of hours to kill before our game. Chris and myself went and had a look @ Team Weavers and they had a great game.
It was the week of all things Khanbashi. Kaden (and Ali) had birthdays and along with Kian, they were our Captains for the day.
We had a good tussle with this side last year. This time around with a 2 or 3 goal breeze, we got the jump on them. Isaac was giving us first use in the middle, feeding Jody and Giddy to pump it long into our forward line. There’s one kid who is trying to wrap up the Coleman medal before the bye – Maxey Leeds is killing it adding another 3 goals to his tally. Ben H doesn’t waste his chances and put through a great running goal. Harry was flying high early – he will take mark of the year one day. Michael finished off the quarter with our 5th straight for the term.
The second term saw our yips in front of goal return. Wes was also trying to sit on shoulders, flying for everything. Any St Kilda forward thrust was repelled by Oliver, Ben H and Maxey’s clearance work off half back was great. Hudson went into the ruck and with immediate effect stamped his authority on the contest. He puts running players like Ben W and Jack B into space. We had 4 points for the quarter. It’s great that we have so many scoring shots and posters are just unlucky.
Half time break came and went. The hail that was forecast didn’t eventuate and the sun shone brightly. Kian was spoken to about getting to the ball first and not waiting for it to come to him. Another great example of listening well. He smashed the 3rd quarter and put him in line for an award. Mitch was starting to get busy, even though he was on the wrong end of a few sumo tackles. Ryan was having a great quarter in the middle hitting targets and pushing the ball forward. We were again wayward with a further 5 behinds for the term.
We spoke about kicking goals in the last quarter. Kaden’s reflexes in the middle saw the ball hit so hard it had to stay in his arms. Charlie was gaining confidence with some important assists and giving James H the opportunity to break clear. We asked for goals and Matty Cole delivered. It’s the first goal from him for the year and the boys were rapt for him. Will had another couple of shots on goal and was also stiff in hitting the post.
Whilst our scoring was lopsided and heavily favoured behinds we will do very well in most games we play having that many inside fifties and scoring shots.
This week will see us virtually at home in Highett Road against East Sandy.
Go Hampton Rovers – best mates.
Cheers
