Under 10 White vs East Sandy (R3)

8 May 2017 by HRJ

I don’t think I’ve ever heard the team song sung with so much pride as it was Sunday!

Led out by Captains for the day Harry G & Geordie who both have ties to East Sandy the boys looked sharp in the brief warm-up.

From the opening bounce our intent was obvious, tackle, tackle, tackle with Harry B chasing down anyone near him. A great tackle from Jack freed the ball allowing him to spin and handball to a running team mate, the ball went forward, Massimo marked in the square and played on to open the account.

Oli’s work on the half forward flank was a revelation and showed his true class on many occasions. Our midfield team led by Zac were amazing as they kept the ball into attack for most of the quarter, Stefan was using his size to assert himself as a key position player and the back-line was fantastic, Max clearing the ball while James was solid and kept his player well in check.

The second quarter we really opened up, Mitch tackled and was rewarded with a free kick which he converted, Freddie was a rock in defence along with Nate and Leo and nothing got past them. Addison almost had goal of the day after a dodging run only to hit the post 🙁 Jack was unlucky not to get his first goal for the season for a great tackle, but the ball that was spilled free was picked up by Addison who converted a worthy goal with a magic “dribbler”. Mitchell chimed in again for his second of the day!

The third quarter was a bit quieter with a strong breeze making scoring hard. Matthew was having a field day up forward and both James and Will were unlucky not to convert a number of chances whilst Jake was back at fullback, again keeping the home side scoreless.

The fourth was another cracking quarter, Geordie was outstanding in the ruck feeding the ball to Mitch & Addison. Sandro who had been tackling and clearing all day was fantastic in the back-line turning around any and all attacks with some great marking, Harry B popped up again getting his first. Soon after Harry G (playing with sore feet) was well served by great delivery from Oli to notch up his first for the day, quickly followed by a second. A great mark in the goal square from Jake in the last line of defence denied a certain goal for Sandy.

A fantastic effort from every boy today, a number of our boys had their best games ever and it was great to see them respond to our words.

Like the mighty Swans, we are now on the board for 2017, rising like a phoenix!

Well done.
