Under 10 White vs St Paul’s McKinnon (R5)

22 May 2017 by HRJ

Beautiful Sunday morning. I got to Castlefield early just so I could have a hotdog and get my footy head on. The boys and I started the day with a big Happy Birthday to coach Daryl!

After the last instructions from the coaches, great mates Harry B and Addison, led the team out with the runner Rod last.

The first quarter was back and forth with our defence fighting hard not letting the St Paul’s side score a goal.

Zac was marking and playing on in the last line of defence and sending the ball to our midfielders…

Will (the new Buddy Franklin) took a great mark standing in front of his opponent and Sandro and Mitchell were tackling and fighting hard.

Second quarter started with Buddy (Will) Franklin, tapping the ball to Harry B who sent the ball to our forward line to Zac to score our first goal. Harry G playing with sore feet was lurking in the goal square.

Will was in the centre with his beautiful left foot hitting Matthew on the chest! Matthew played on, running around the mark to nearly convert, Leo was unlucky not to score from a snap and Freddie was a rock in defence

The first half was fought hard with the boys doing their best.

Third quarter: It didn’t take long for Will to take the ball spin to his left straighten up and kick a goal.

James picking up a loose ball and kicking long into the forward line for Will to take a mark and a great left foot though the centre for his second major of the day.

Last Quarter:The game was anyone’s but our boys wanted it more.

Max & Jake kept the gates closed for St Paul’s, whilst Oli was always wheeling around and delivering to the hot spot. Nate zigzagged everyone to kick 2 goals to seal the match. It was a very physical game with Geordie, Addison and Jack all going off with heavy hits, only to return and put their stamp on the game. Stefan was dishing out don’t argues as was Masimo, great to see these kids start to use their bodies to effect.

Well done boys. Training and paying attention is paying off.
