Hampton Rovers 12.15 (87) def. St Peters Bentleigh 0.0 (0)
Clear skies and a chilling wind greeted the boys for the first game back from the break at Castlefield on Sunday.
Captains for the day were Josh Haines & Anastasi Barbaras who both had terrific captains games
Still in Holiday mode we again had 6 players missing from our regular line up. The Under 10 white team loaned us some of their players to ensure we had required numbers Harry B, Max B, Max L, Ollie E & Nat W joined the team and each made a fantastic contribution with Ollie kicking the first Goal of the match and Max B kicking 2 goals! .
The game was very congested and our boys played a great game focusing on moving the back quickly through the crowd. Our mid-field started with Josh Haines in the ruck who gave Harry L a first quarter goal and Fletch Josh C first use of the ball. As is their habit the mid field boys joined by Liam and Jonty on the wing were again awesome today. It was very cold out and the team were focused on moving the ball quickly. Harry Gibbins again stopped everything at half back and was well assisted by Dan & Anastasi while Tom started forward in top form & had his best game for the year.
The Rovers teamwork was fantastic with use of the wind all players were moving the ball very quickly to the forward line. Angus scored his second of 3 for the day in what was a very tight quarter with only one goal scored. The boys were working well with great talk and better shepherding
The Rovers had the majority of the play in the first half leading by 35 points at the main break then they turned it on to enjoy a 5 goal quarter with Angus, Tom, Nat, Nick and Max B all getting into the scorers book with goals.
The teamwork was again brilliant today and the team worked exceptionally well together demonstrating after plenty of positional moves through the game that all the boys are getting a fantastic understanding how to play great footy. In the last quarter Pat & Liam scored goals from great running play while Max and Tom joined in the party with goal of their own. In the end the Rovers were too strong and out played today’s competition.
A great game and happy team finishing the day with our great song.
Go Rovers!
David
