VICTORY!!! 28-7
OH MY GAWWD!!! What a cracker of a game! And the sunshine was spectacular too, just to top it off.
Murrumbeena won the toss. Coach Leigh’s instructions were clear and concise – Lottie had to get 2 goals and Laura 3, and the rest just had to be FAST, FAST, FAST!
Showing us why they have been our toughest foe to date, it was a furious pace from the whistle. The tackles were fierce and the threat ever present, with even a whiff of the ball the Murrumbeena girls had it down in their goal scoring area. Our defence was tested on every turn but the determination and top tackling paid off and the midfielders gave our girls the chances they needed for a behind, and a goal by Lizzie…
Daisy managed to reprise the famous Dive Roll and we headed into the second quarter with big hits, a few close calls but then a behind by Leni, and another behind. A Murrumbeena goal meant that we were starting to sweat bullets before Leni scored a goal giving us a bit of breathing space just on the siren.
The third quarter, it turns out, is the “Money Quarter” but “we’ve got the wind” which apparently is good…… apparently. The girls bought it and that’s all that counts. So Maddie scored a goal and Aliah somehow managed to make a big tackle on a little girl and not go high. Yes, I know I am banging on about the tackles, but some of them looked more like a Pitbull shaking a Shitzu than two teams of U12 girls with ribbons and face paint for Christs’ sake! (That’s politics AND religion- tick!) IT WAS AWESOME!!!
Emily scored another goal followed by another behind. Now pay attention to this part ……..{insert your daughters name here}……. played the best game of their season! EVERY girl shone. Daisy and Mia K made a real difference in the midfield. Mika lifted and was there when needed and I know she was understandably proud of herself and her team. Me too!
I can’t believe the change in the girls’ skills over the course of the season. The teamwork was impressive and although the kicks might not always make the mark, the girls now know where they’re aiming. In fact, if they continue to improve like this, I’ll be left with no alternative but to take the mickey out of my husbands’ parallel parking instead of the games…
Awards to Olivia and Maddie.
Also, a big welcome to the sidelines to Ned. I hope you enjoyed the different perspective.
And now, bring on the GF!!!!!
