Under 12 Girls vs Beaumaris (R5)

22 May 2017 by HRJ

BOOM!!! 130-13

The U12 Hampton Rovers have landed!!!

The commitment of these girls truly blew me away this week in our first official game after grading.

We had our first injury before the game even started as Leni tried a out new defensive move, the “put your face in front of the ball move” (I’m still working on a name!) and despite the obvious pain associated with it pushed on and used it to great success stopping a goal in the first quarter. The most impressive thing though was that she just shook it off and played on – GO LENI!!!

Being more evenly matched this time meant we had some great match ups. The Mias again did great work in the midfield giving us possession and if Beaumaris got a shot at the ball then Maddie was on them like white on rice.

Emily Burns got the first goal of the match and the crowd went wild!!! (which means Brendan tooted his car horn). She celebrated by turning to her adoring parents… who weren’t there and arrived five minutes after the fact. She didn’t get another goal and they may never… EVER… get that moment back. Anyhoo.

Spurred on by this, Lottie took on the largest girl on the field – Pete F said to call her the Fridge but I said no, even I’m not that rude! – and held her own. Then Alice scored (Brendan didn’t toot the horn) and Shanti was everywhere.

Eloise had a go and got a behind, Laura was rewarded for her hard work with a goal AND a behind (still think it should be a “next to”). Edie got a goal AND a behind, Daisy did another roll and Mika got a behind. She got one later too but, who’s boasting. CRIKEY, busy busy.

The 3rd quarter or 1st half of the 2nd half, as I like to call it, was REALLY exciting too. I know this because my notes are just rubbish! But I believe Lizzie, Alice and Shanti did some really good work. Olivia did a kick that was “great” and Mika tried to bring down the aforementioned girl by piggy back tackling her.

The last ¼ saw Beaumaris stage a comeback but they only managed to rack up 7 with a lot of Behinds, 7 obviously. Mia & Eloise did great work bringing the ball back our way. Then Mia K got a behind, take that Beaumaris.

Since Beaumaris was apparently not going to lie down we took Sassy back who had been confiscated and used to fill their ranks. This earns Leigh another award for showing he has his priorities right.

Mia K got Best on Field as voted by Beaumaris – well done Mia!
Laura and Shanti got Best on Field as voted by us – well done girls.

For everyone’s peace of mind they never listen to my recommendations.

** Some scenes have been dramatised and I may have used artistic license when stating the score – 130-13
***Brendan never tooted again
****Next week will be shorter I promise.

The irrepressible Suey Cooper
