Under 12 Girls vs South Melbourne (R6)

30 May 2017 by HRJ

Another game, another victory! 31-13

I’d like to pretend it’s getting passé but it’s sooo NOT. To be honest, it’s all I can do to resist the temptation to force the family to get tattoos saying WINNERS!!

The girls continue to improve in leaps and bounds with the action spread far more evenly across the full team. Georgia (who scored a behind) and Emily B got stuck in straight away and stayed strong for the entire game. Laura swatted away some poor girl in a move that strongly resembled a ride on the Gravitron and is apparently illegal….. you guessed it – I’m challenging that.

Then because we’re so used to playing for the opposition Emily T tackled Lottie which didn’t stop her going cray cray and scoring TWO GOALS and a next to (behind) in the first ¼.

Daisy showed that she’s either totally over her signature move or didn’t get permission from the trademark holders but either way she didn’t dive roll once, and instead settled for just playing really well in both attack and defence along with Lizzie.

Then in the 2/4 to my absolute shock Olivia used the “put your face in front of the ball move” and then under the effects of a mild concussion ran too far – which is again apparently illegal!! Mia K was everywhere we needed her and Shannah was everywhere the Umpire needed her. Leni scored a goal and a next to and Brendan wore a suit to celebrate – so lucky he had one handy.

Aliah and Maddie put in the hard yards as did Esme, Stefi and Mia S. Mark however, was so enthusiastic in his duties as Runner that I can only assume he was behind on his daily step count or training for a marathon.

As if to prove our progress two of the girls did the bounce while running thing – in my defence that actually doesn’t have an official term so I’m sticking with that.

The ¾ saw Mika break a nail, and it really hurt! Then she ran too far, blah blah blah illegal, and later in a magnanimous gesture did a great kick to Edie who got a goal. YAY MIKA….and Edie of course. Pete got some helpful advice from one of the South Melbourne players who kindly screamed it his face “I marked it!!!” Which as we all know is not easy with a mouthguard in and a Rover hanging off you. (I mean, who hasn’t been there in our darker hours of parenting).

In the last ¼ it seemed like everyone scored a behind, except Emily Burns who now requires therapy, but they didn’t, I know because I checked. That would have been another 26 points.

Lizzie and Leni got the cold rock awards this week and rightly so.

* Ta Daaaa! Please note that this week I only wrote 483 words
** You’re welcome.
