Under 13 Div 1 vs Mordi Brae (R14)

7 August 2017 by HRJ

It’s a scientifically proven fact that the suburb of Mordialloc is always 7-10 degrees colder than anywhere else in Melbourne. And this curious fact was never more evident than in the U13 Div 1’s game against a Mordi-Brae side that was hoping to cement a place in the finals.

Kicking with a howling breeze, the home team banged on 3 goals to none in the opening term. Then the temperature dropped even further as basketball-sized chunks of ice began to cascade from the heavens. Enter Ollie Horigan. In a masterful cameo, he banged through 3 goals in as many minutes to put us back in the game. Two more goals saw us 13 points up at half time.

After half time, pools of water on the ground actually started to form mini glaciers, and handling the sodden footy got even tougher. Zac Zeising came off the ground with blood streaming from his nose but went straight back on when it froze solid above his lip.

The boys fought out the second half like madmen. They all put their head over the ball, tackled fiercely & never let Mordi back in the game. As Trent said to the boys afterwards – “Our best win of the season”.

Rovers 5.7.37 defeated Mordi-Brae 3.5.23

Best: Horigan, Draheim, Gray, Marshall
