Lovely day for footy. No umpires so Audra steps from Boundary into the Field.
Against a well drilled and bigger team the boys put in a valiant effort.
Supported by a pack of younger players Rovers showed flashes of talent and some promise for the future.
Tuffley, Mcleish, & Wells figured early in some good play. Duffin and Gathercole showed spunk and staved off several attacks.
One raid saw Haydon to Roberts to Griffin and on to Paino marking strongly and scoring a Major.
Interesting work from Doyle and Troy in close. Akinci busy all day at Fullback. Morris determined on the wing. Cassidy striving. Roberts is everywhere. Griffin chiming in with King to engineer some attacking movements. Cassidy keeps trying in ruck with Duffin & Troy grinding out some dogged defense.
With Mcleish into the ruck. Troy running hard takes a fine mark passes to Tuffley ever present, on to Roberts, to the running Gathercole and forward to Mcleish’s safe hands. Haydon continues trying, to Morris, to Mcleish, Troy to Griffin but Rovers just cant penetrate the defense.
Wells spinning out of packs. Mcleish to Doyle marking. Rovers pushing and trying all game. Paino punting forward to Mcleish kicking to Roberts to Griffin, ball spills to Roberts again, on to Tuffley who is smashed in possession.
A hard slog against a better team but some good effort by the boys throughout the game.
