Under 13 Div 4 vs East Malvern (R2)

3 May 2017 by HRJ

A lovely Sunday afternoon for a game of footy at good old Castlefield.

We were playing East Malvern and we knew we were up against a strong outfit. It was a pretty even contest throughout the first quarter with our intensity matching theirs most of the time. East Malvern got away to a 2 goal lead due to longer clearing kicks and playing in front, these tactics enabled them take some good strong uncontested marks. East Malvern in the lead but not by much at end of first.

Second and Third quarters we seemed a little flat compared to the week before and held back when there was a marking contest to be won but we kept in there and had some good passages of play with Will Tuffley everywhere playing with guts and courage. Another good effort by Paddy Troy and Adam Doyle, as new footballers, both very unlucky not to get a major score on the board but building our score with some minor points and good play. Keep pushing and the goals will come boys.

Some terrific smothering today around goals by our backs which definitely stopped a bigger lead blowout. It was gutsy stuff and well done! Henry Hamilton kicked a strong goal when moved forward with a booming kick on the wing. A good first up effort by our new man Presley (will have to perform with a name like that!) by all accounts a great new addition to the team. I thought any minute now we will get a run on but it just didn’t happen today.

The team are getting to know each other and with added match fitness to come we can only get better, exciting!!

East Malvern scored too easily in the last quarter and broke away in the end to win by a hefty margin. Bring a little bit more mongrel to the game next week boys, stick on your man and go get em Rovers!!
