I came away from Sunday with a grin on my face having seen us show some fire in the final quarter. Whilst the wind was certainly a contributing factor we managed to get first hands on the football, move it quickly and then convert our opportunities.
With only two boys missing for this Sundays clash it will be nice to have close to our full side on the park and not have to rely quite as heavily on the assistance of the U13 boys.
In saying that I think everyone will agree the boys that have stepped up over the last few weeks should be incredibly proud as they have by no means looked out of place playing in the older age group.
We started well on Sunday kicking the first into the wind however their height and ability to take strong marks overhead took its toll. We as a team failed to apply the required pressure and determination when attacking the football or chasing the opposition.
Some other highlights;
Nick Quinlan really standing up and showing an attitude of ‘I will not be beaten’ in defence;
James Chadwick running straight lines all day and just playing simple football;
Dan Hall sneaking a goal in the first quarter at the expense of Zach (I think?) and then handing one off to the long kicking Harry Officer in the last;
Darcy Lyon tried his guts out all day;
Sam Flockart just ran and tried and ran and tried all day.
I look forward to seeing everyone of Wednesday at 5pm and confirm that I will be at Brighton Beach Oval from 2.45pm on Saturday (on the hill) to watch the Old Brighton 1sts.
I encourage you to get your son there to watch what will hopefully be a physical encounter and an educational experience in voice and picking the ball up on the move.
