When we have a goal kicking conversion of 16%, winning games is going to be tough.
Sometimes improvement takes other forms than getting the 4 points for a win. I think the boys have moved past patting them on the back when something expected is done. It is when they dig a bit deeper that we see what these boys are capable of. Two times in the third quarter we bought boys to the bench. Not to suggest things but to let them know more was expected. Both times instructions were given and taken on board. That is a win!
In the second quarter we had a chain of ball movement that meant the ball did not touch the ground from full back to the forward pocket. This is a drill we have practiced dozens of times over the past 3 years. 8 players handled the ball with at least 3 of them following up with shepherds. That is a win!
We are used to seeing Sam Flockart run a wing and stay loose but Sunday saw him in and under taking some big hits against substantially bigger opponents. That was a huge win!
We saw Tim Cowie spend most of his time in the forward line and present himself every time. Staying in front and playing honest was the instruction and he followed them precisely. That is a win!
Lucas and Angus’ attack at the ball was a highlight in the back line. Not much gets past these two guys and that is a win!
Sammy Stewart’s first two quarters were outstanding and whilst we generally remember the last half of a game, his first half can’t be forgotten. Win!
The skipper took on about 6 blokes bigger than him and just guts it out all day. Charlie is truly stuffed after every game. Another instruction and another win!
We have an engine room that consists of players that drive this team. Harry, Ossie, Tommy R, Garbs and Chadie are a group of players that cannot relax for one minute and on Sunday I thought they won their positions and drove the team. A big win!
Against a substantially bigger team, it was our mosquito fleet of Darcy, Mitch and Sammy that did not take a backwards step. These guys kept us in the game when it could have been curtains. An outstanding win!
Take a look at the effort these guys put in every week. Jules, Tom P, Burnsie, Cooper, Ben and Quinny. These guys all have differing levels of skill but none lack intent and are desperately required for this team to have success. Winners.
Another guy that is just expected to play well and get the job done week in week out is Hugo. He once again just presented all day and made a hard game look a bit easy at times. He kicked 2 goals too. Well done and that is a win!
It all goes back to the first line boys. 16% can’t win a game so let’s get down to training Wednesday, kick a few goals, lay a few shepherds and have a pie!
You’re all winners – now to win on the scoreboard!!
