With only 14 players available this week against St. Paul’s McKinnon, the U15 Div. 4 boys were up against it from the start, with the opposition fielding one extra player and rotating their players through the bench.
Despite this, what we lacked in numbers we made up for in effort, intensity and teamwork, running out 68 point winners.
With the lower numbers for both teams, the Sandy Rover boys used the open space to their advantage, linking up with chains of handballs and transitioning the ball quickly from the backline to the forward. Stand in ruckman Will Laverty was everywhere, taking big marks around the ground and finishing with three goals. Flynn Lohan and Ben Green mixed it up in the midfield and played their best games of the year, both providing strong contests and plenty of run and spark.
The highlight of the day however came in the last quarter when Tommy Griffin kicked his first ever goal for the club!
All in all, a solid team effort from the boys. We are continually getting better as a team and it is fantastic to see some of the things that we practice at training coming to fruition game-day. With this being said, it is very important that we keep on coming along to training to we can improve individually and as a team.
Go Rovers!
