Under 16 Div 2 vs Dingley (R8)

19 June 2017 by HRJ

Well, it was great to sing the songs again after a well-deserved win.

A beautiful day for footy and the boys didn’t let us down.

With both sides not a having a win since re grading, it was the game to decide who was going to be bottom of the ladder.

We came out strongly in the first half but were lucky Dingley were inaccurate in the second quarter kicking 7 points!! Our manning up needed to be better, our tackling stronger and our intensity needed to improve. Half time score had us marginally up 2.9.21 vs 6.2.38. 11 scoring shots to 8.

Well after half time it all seemed to improve. Run and carry, tackling, talk and intensity were up and we kicked 7.4 to 2.5 in the second half to win 4.14.38 to 13.7.85.

Goals- Will Nolan 4, Tom McKinley 2, Per Bellarts 2 and singles to Cooper, Ben Coote, Beau Harrison and both Liam’s – O’Driscoll and Kenny.

Awards-

Matthew Young- for taking the game ON, team play, exemplified by shepherding a goal through instead of kicking it himself and just having a crack all day.

Connor McConville – I gave Connor a job at quarter time to nullify an opposition player and he did exactly what was asked and still influenced the game himself.

Marcus White- I can’t say enough about the way Marcus plays the game. Hard, fair, tough and skilled. Smashed packs all day. Great game, again.

Felix Flockart- Tireless in a tough position at full back. Backed himself taking marks on the last line of defence. Fantastic.

Will Nolan- Great hands at full forward and some sure kicking for goal, ending up with four.

A big thanks to Matthew Field who turned up very sore from footy on Saturday but sat on the bench all day ready to come on if needed. Very selfless. Fantastic.

Hope to see as many as possible a training on Wednesday.

Well done boys.

Paul
