What’s the sum up from today lads? Holiday mode in the first half against a highly skilled and hard working opposition made it harder than it needed to be…excellent to see you dig deep and raise your commitment in the second half to play more accountable footy, compete against your opponent, to chase / harass and tackle and get some run / attacking footy — you are well set up to take this into next week’s game. E. Malvern 14.15.99 to Sandy Rovers 2.3.15…they played 4-quarters of footy.
Recognition and Awards to players to do that played 4-quarters of footy:
Cooper Goulding – worked tirelessly after a heavy head knock at the start of the game, in / under prepared to crash in to contests and get a little bit of run for team mates.
Zeb a.k.a. The Tackling Machine – never gave up, laid double digit tackles again, was rewarded in the last quarter after hunting the ball with a goal on the run.
Ben Allan – rucked tirelessly all day, won many taps holding his own and was competitive around the ground given we were pretty under-sized.
Liam Kenny a.k.a. Leo Barry – read the ball beautifully with some ripping BIG STRONG marks down back, and some smart kick-ins from full back.
Matt Young – for his last quarter performance given the task to nullify their spare man in our forward line, tackled, pressured and got on the end of several balls snagging a couple shots on goal – achieved your personal best today.
On a positive note, your 2nd half ball movement and competitiveness we could not have asked for more lads – you lifted your heads after half time, and did yourselves and the Club proud to not just lay down and say it was all too hard. We play St Kilda City next week and based on the ladder we are on par with them…let’s set ourselves to rebound starting at training and getting a good nights sleep next Saturday night!
