Under 16 Div 2 vs Ormond (R5)

22 May 2017 by HRJ

Headline: You got better as the game went on and finished off strongly with three 4th quarter goals – persistence paid off.

Goal kickers: [I think] McKinley, Spaziani, Hall.

Player performance: Tom McKinley best on for us with great attack on the footy in the air and on the ground, positive impact all over the ground, with strong leadership. Marcus another solid performance, repeatedly attacking the contest all over the ground, solid captain’s game. Coops continues to be ever present in and under showing great willingness to take the game on and mark overhead. Liam O’Driscoll showed guts and willingness to take a lead in the ruck and provided great mobility around the ground. Mitch Hall moved down back early and was very competitive laying plenty of tackles and competing for contested footy, also found opportunity playing off the half forward in the last to mark and kick cleanly for set shot on goal. Will Nolan was also very effective in defence and when going onto the ball. Flock had a big job at full back again and competed manfully in the air and on the ground, and made excellent kick in choices under pressure.

Play of the Day: Everyone’s contribution to scoring 3 goals in the last quarter – the increased pressure to finish the game strongly in the 4th quarter showed competitive spirit.

Thanks to Christian, Ben and Beau for getting along to the game while injured.

Looking ahead, let’s just focus on what we can control — things such as improving skills by foot and in marking duels to stand strong, and bringing repetitive tackling pressure when not in possession. We should also remain committed to learning to switch the direction of play towards space (not bombing to a pack down the boundary line) and quickly moving the ball on which requires runners using their voice to provide options by hand and foot.

Have a great week boys and come to play again next Sunday.
