Three rounds to go boys, and for some of you, this will be your last year of junior Club footy. Reflect upon that this week — how are you tracking to your development goals you set yourself in terms of what you wanted to achieve this year to be the best YOU can be. Paul and I can’t emphasise enough the long term benefits of team sports. The importance of playing your role, to the best of your ability and enjoying playing footy with some mates.
Some really strong individual efforts that stood out today, noting everyone did something at some stage to make a contribution…and most importantly, to play the game out.
Keep thinking about the way you are playing the game, develop conscious awareness of whether you are contesting (IN) the play or manned up behind the play…keep trying to not get caught jogging around and finding yourself in the middle of the contest and opposition dropping off you, i.e., in no-man’s land. Develop the presence of mind and ask yourself, what should I do / where should I be right now. Neglecting to understand this well enough made it too easy for the opposition to switch and move the ball quickly.
Recognition today to the following players:
Andy Bird who played by far his most competitive and impactful game for the year, imagine how good you will be when you develop the confidence to set yourself to kick ‘true’
Tom McKinley another very consistent 4-quarter game impacting the play at ground level and in the air, and making good decisions with the footy in hand
Joe for a very attacking and competitive game rucking and across half back – unfortunately injured his knee and we hope all is ok
Zeb yet again for a master-class in competitive physical committed footy, and some very quick handballs to bring team mates in to the game
Liam O’Driscoll with overhead marking and attack on the footy in the air, great voice and getting to space creating options.
Some good cameo bursts today Charlie O in the second quarter took it up to the opposition and made a statement. Will Nolan’s attack on the footy in the air and on the ground, use of the ball by foot was elite. Felix on a very strong 4th quarter with overhead marks and loose ball gets, also hitting targets by foot with some excellent kicking. Coops and Marcus working tirelessly.
A call out to Christian – we hope your knee is recovering.
Remember Paul and I don’t care if you make a mistake in the game. We do care whether you are going to finish the season having reached your goals and tested your own limits.
