After thanking all our mums on Mother’s Day we started the game with only 16 available players to which East Sandy kindly provided 2 extras to allow the game to be played on even terms.
Once the siren sounded to start the game Rovers kicked into gear immediately with our centre line of Raph, Jodi, Jake and Toby along with the two East Sandy boys continually driving the ball forward. Baxter and Fletcher made the most of these opportunities with Baxter snapping two great goals over his shoulder, then passing off another to Fletcher who scored the first of his two first term goals as well, Rovers were off to a great start.
Second quarter saw East Sandy get their game going breaking through for a couple of goals, our backline was under siege however Seb G was solid in defence and Lincoln was on fire in the middle of the ground.
Third quarter was tough as the umpires were letting the game flow, very few kicks were being paid and the kids from both teams were really getting stuck into it, Martin our trainer covered more distance on the ground than some of our players, however the tough in under footy was being lapped up by a number of our players, particularly Toby, Harry and Jade, they were right in the thick of it.
Final quarter again saw great drive and delivery out of the centre from our boys. One passage saw a great pass out of the middle where Chris held a great mark, Baxter combined with a great pass to Jake in the goal square who then put the ball straight through the middle. East Sandy fought back, our backline was under pressure, but Theeran following team rules dropped back into the goal square where he saved a certain opposition goal with a great tackle right on the goal line, whilst Lincoln, Josh and Daniel worked well together repelling a number of East Sandy advances. Although the final score was very much in our favour it as was a hard physical game, well done to our boys.”
