Under 8 Yellow vs East Brighton Vampires (R3)

8 May 2017 by HRJ

Team Yellow started the weekend with their first ever Friday night game under lights, playing at half time at the Will Murray match. It was a great experience for the boys and they managed to get a goal on the board in the dying seconds of the game.

They followed up on Sunday with a strong team performance at Castlefield against East Brighton. The boys have come a long way after only 2 games and there some great passages of play and most importantly they all seem to be enjoying their football.

The ball spent a lot of time in East Brighton’s forward line during the first few minutes of the first quarter. However, the backline stood up to the challenge- manning up and not kicking across goals. Kai laid multiple tackles and had plenty of the ball. Caelean M also laid a great tackle and Caelan K took a strong mark early with Kit kicking the ball well out of defence. The backline held up to the East Brighton pressure well, however they eventually scored a goal. After the next bounce, the mids worked strongly together to get possession. Sebastian Lynch laid some strong tackles and took a great mark. Ethan kicked the ball nicely to Cruz who finished off with a great goal.

The second quarter was again very even. The backline stood up strongly. with Jackson Nelson taking a strong mark and kicking well. Josh also kicked the ball well and laid some strong tackles. The boys managed to get the ball into the forward line with Angus kicking the ball well nicely to Charlie who took a strong mark. Although the boys didn’t manage to score, they kept up the pressure the whole quarter.

The third quarter saw some great teamwork. The backline again held up to the pressure with Cooper marking strongly, while Freddie and Ashton both kicking long out of the backline. Lucas also kicked the ball out well from the only point of the quarter- following the coach’s instruction to not kick across goal. The boys got the ball into the forward line and after a great smother and tackle, Will managed to kick his first goal for the year with his teammates all celebrating with him.

The last quarter the boys all continued their strong tackling and pressure right until the end of the game. Jack and Archie N both took strong marks during the quarter. Jackson B and Harry both worked hard in the forward line. Edward J was strong on ball with Louis working well off the wing. The hard work paid off with a great goal to Jackson late in the quarter.

After only 3 and a bit games, the improvement has been amazing. The boys are listening to the messages of Julian and starting to gel as a team and most importantly enjoying their footy.

A big thankyou to our runner Czigany, who dealt with two blood noses.

The awards this week went to:
Kai,
Will
Cooper
Cruz
Caelan M.
