What a win!!!!
The quarter by quarter scores were: HR 0.2-2/ EM 0.1-1, HR 0.2-2/ EM 1.6-12, HR 0.3-3/ EM 3.8-26, HR 4.6-30/EM 3.9-27.
Whilst the game was won on the scoreboard in the last quarter it was the first 3 quarters that set it up. Not once did we see any of our players drop their heads or look at others to lead. This was truly a collective effort.
The back line was miserly and tough. I haven’t seen this team shut the ball down quite as well as you did on Sunday. There was little panic from a team that is starting to think about what is required. Everyone was manned up and were conscious of helping their team mates. Before the game we spoke of being more selfless than selfish (Neale Daniher) and the boys took ownership of this statement.
Thank you to the boys from the U13’s. Dan, Ollie and Zac. We needed to run for a whole 80 minutes on Sunday and your contribution was absolutely needed. Thanks again.
At half time we talked about commitment at the ball and our capacity to run. We were probably a little down on both these points however the desire was certainly present. It just needed a spark! Take ‘em on, have a bounce, sell a bit of candy and have some fun!!!! Enter Will Garbs. He strapped a couple of jets to his boots and lit up the game and his mates. His 3-4 and 5th efforts hurt East Malvern.
Charlie having a bounce… love it! Just don’t empty the tank too early mate. Great help in the centre also from Chady and Burnsie.
Angus having a dance with his tagger in the back pocket was entertaining but more importantly it showed he was listening to instruction. Take ’em on!
Ozzie to the backline worked as he repelled several entries in the last quarter. His desperation in shutting down the play showed game awareness also.
Goal kickers Tom R, Hugo and Harry O all stepped up when the pressure was really on. They were not “lucky” goals, they were goals that took 3 and a half quarters to get. All 3 players worked tirelessly to be on the end of these goals. Tommy R was like a bull!!!! Hugo worked as hard as he could to get into the game and rewarded himself. Harry O went from one end of the ground to the other to get to the contest. Well lead Harry.
Every player had a crack with most playing out of position in the last quarter. I couldn’t rank any players effort less than 7.5 out of 10. You ran, you shepherded, you tackled, you manned up and you played to a plan. Everyone of you should be proud of all these efforts and hope to take them into every game every week.
