My weekend started Thursday night taking the Under 17 lads for training. They are a great bunch of young guys, very respectful and worked hard for each other. They backed it up Sunday and had a well-deserved win over Ormond. They now go to the top of the D3 ladder – well done boys, we wish you well for the remainder of the year.
Friday night at the club was an entrée to what these two ladies served up Saturday night at Casino Royale.

Good people are the backbone in any great venture. I have been fortunate enough to work with many great volunteers over my journey at club land in the Yarra League, Eastern Football League and in the SMJFL. We currently have a committee that is devoted to making sure our children have the best possible experience we can give them and make the journey for the parents fun from time to time also.
Tan & Deb are two ladies that make our world in the bubble a whole lot better. The zany chicks with help from several on the Senior Committee put together a social occasion where everyone came together and had a ball. In talking with Senior Women’s players in their early to mid-20s, they were saying how much they love football but more importantly how well the club has made them feel welcome. This is due to good people like Tan and Deb, Senior President, Steve Anderson & his hard working group of Volunteers.
I saw plenty I liked on Sunday and unfortunately another poor performance from a team official that had me asking why the need for his action.
Let’s start with the way our club comes together each year and supports one age group to the next. We have Under 11s playing in under 12s, under 12s in Under 13s. At D1 level they sang the song with the older boys. Under 15s playing under 16s and receiving praise from the great man Ralph Bergman, D1 coach, after they went down to the Vamps but were gallant.
Under 15 Blue was solid at Boss James against South Melbourne and they recorded a good win. Kyle, Jacob and Angus all played a part as seen here. Gold started slow against the Vamps and got what they deserved, lost by 28 pts. Dan’s team had 14 players and still got the chocolates, great stuff boys, very happy for you.
All 3 Under 8 teams loved the day, the match reports from Jonesy and Julian are rippers. The amount of effort and energy from this age group is a mini club within itself. New members are still joining – Rovers under 8 is the place to be.
The Under 9 squad had a mixed bag and reported the Bentleigh Demons were up and about.
Daryl’s team, under 10 White as seen below had a rippa, these lads are A grade players and people. The coaches love the kids and the kids give max effort always. Under 10 Silver had a fantastic day and showed BBJFC how we go about it.

Tim’s Under 11s had a reality check against the Jaccas, whilst Dave’s team goes about its business like a Swiss watch, precision and craftsmanship. Did I tell you they are on top of the D5 ladder?
Under 12 Girls had a Bye, did I mention they are also on top of the D3 Ladder? NO, well, they are.
Under 12, D1 had a nose bleed against the Knights on the postage stamp, “NOWHERE TO RUN NOWHERE TO HIDE” as sung by ‘MARTHA AND THE VANDELLAS’. D6 had 9 scoring shots to 15, all lads had a go.
Under 13 D1 got home in the last kick of the day over Port/Sth Melb. D3 had a great 1 pt win, boys taking on board what Marty is selling no doubt.
Under 14 lost to the Beena by 24 pts. They had a few old faces join the cause that no doubt would have been welcome additions.
Under 16 Ladies drew 1.4 to 1.4 against the Vamps.
Under 16 D2 had a game where you try and find a positive but alas they are few and far between, but no doubt the boys were just happy to hang with mates.
LOWLIGHT. As mentioned earlier an official allowed himself to get involved at a quarter time scuffle after the siren. The trainer from a Vamps team placed his hands on an opposing player and used some language that should never be heard on the sports field let alone junior sport. We as officials should never get involved in confrontation in any form. Parents that verbalise and incite violence should be outed from the game.

Kai Currie (under 8 Purple & in the best last week) and Jordan Segar (under 15). Jordan plays in Under 15 Blue D1 and came to Rovers this year and is having a great year form wise. Kai is loving life also as a Rover. Kai’s Mum, Natalie informs me that Kai loves his big cousin, 2 x 11 = 22 Kai.
