I’m not sure if it was a full moon on Saturday evening, but something in the air shifted, some members stepped out of line.
Passion & Respect figure prominently in our Club Mantra; these words should be understood and never overstepped. On Sunday we had 3 separate incidents where parents from our club and other clubs overstepped the acceptable level of Passion and Respect. We need to be showing a strong level of respect for all players, not just ours but every player on the ground. Talking to opposition players is unacceptable unless it is positive words spoken. Yelling at umpires is also a no-go zone. I know it is frustrating when something is missed that you see but no umpire starts out with the intent to do a poor job, like playing they also make mistakes.
PASSION
OXFORD DICTIONARY: Strong and barely controllable reaction, a state or outburst of strong emotion.
Passion is a wonderful thing; it needs to be harnessed, educated and cultured from year to year.
The Committee is now dealing with certain incidents that should never raise its ugly head, parents are asked to encourage only.
OK, enough said, I hope.
I went along to Auskick Saturday morning to introduce 3 of our Interleague players as they need to attend as part of the Interleague process and I noticed huge numbers of female participation. Tayla Jones (on the left at the back) with Tash Morris are the first girls in Rover history to play rep footy. Tayla was the only girl at Auskick in the day, today we have 32 girls registered with plenty already playing U8 and plenty talking about U10 team/s for 2019. We are very proud of both these young ladies and a little extra proud of Tay J as she is truly an Auskick kind of girl.
160 + Participants at Auskick leaves our future looking bright.
Our girls teams struggled to sing the song this past weekend with all 4 teams going down. Richards U18 girls had a close one going down to Port Melbourne, these girls are all bottom agers so expect them to flourish in the years ahead. Coyney wrote this in his match report “Just a point of reinforcement. Over the past 5 weeks your skills have grown exponentially as has your game knowledge. Let’s make next week as good if not better.”
All three under 12 girls enjoyed playing and the coaches are doing a wonderful job.
Our U17 boys beat Oakleigh in a match with plenty of off the ball action. Our lads kept cool as coaches instructed and deserved a hard-fought result.
The Under 16 D2 lads led all day to see Chelt Panthers get over the top in the last quarter. 16 D1 had a great win at Trevor Barker over Beaumaris Sharks, the highlight being a screamer from recruit, Tom Mackie, standby for video footage to emerge soon.
The U15 lads from all reports are doing well at Zebbies, coach Andy Dinn said the lads are going well and a great addition to the team.
U14 lads teams both won their games at St Peters and Boss James. Grant said his team played a great brand and he was happy to get the chocolates.
Under 13 boys both went down in back to back games at Boss James, Great game by Archie Roberts in D1.
Under 12 D2 got the W. Jay, Jem and Taj all played well. D3 went head to head with the Dingley Dingoes and the Dingoes took the chocolates, Fletcher Hall ended up with 2 sausage rolls.
Our U11 lads fought hard against St Kilda but fell short in D1 whilst D4 had a monster win over St Paul’s and enjoyed their first run at the MCG of the south using the whole oval.
Under 10 lads all enjoyed their footy and sang a song. Under 9 teams had a mixed bag and Jonesy called both teams in and reminded them all about respect and sportsmanship.
The Under 8 teams had a wonderful day with parent loving their children running around and enjoying their sport.
Just to recap, they are children, this is their time to shine, not the parents.
RESPECT for ALL
