For the second week in a row we came up against a team that was not as well developed as our boys but importantly they paid them the respect that every team deserves. And although it was fairly quiet for those in the backline when every boy got their chance today they got involved in the game.
Today our Captain was Josh Marshall and he was assisted as Vice-captain by Jaxen Gordon. We also had two boys, Angus and Ethan, who come straight from the under 9s in the game before us to help us out today.
We started off the game solidly with Josh Marshall and Sunny King dominating the midfield repeatedly sending the ball forward. Will Boyd-Turner kicked our two goals for the quarter while we held Beaumaris to just one point.
In the second quarter we were irrepressible with Paddy Wilson slamming home three goals, Lachie Nolan with two and Jaxen Gordon chipping in for one. Campbell Holtham again played a great defensive role in the forward line regularly mopping up the ball across half forward and sending it back in deep to set up the other forwards.
We continued on in the third term with big Sunny dominating the forward line kicking our three goals. He was well assisted by Alex Condon and Joe Sansotta creating a lot of pressure keeping the ball locked in our forward line. Our backline held Beaumaris to just the one goal again.
In the last quarter we took our foot off the gas a bit but to the credit of the backline we held Beaumaris scoreless with some good work down there led by Paddy, Miles and Lachie to deny the opposition. We threatened up forward with a few shots at goal but could not quite convert finishing with two points for the quarter.

Our award winners this week were Joe Sansotta, our self-appointed tackling king, who maintained this reputation throughout the game but also started to really get involved with handball, kicking and marking. When Joe gets the ball he is always unselfishly looking to give the first option to a teammate in a better position than himself. The second award went to the ever reliable Domenic Todarello – whether playing forward, midfield or backline he looks amazing wheeling around onto his right foot and booting the ball forward. Today, more importantly, he gave off a number of handballs as well to set up the play, with one in particular directly ending in a goal. The last two awards went to two boys who I took beside before the game and spoke to them about how with the structure of the team that they would have a big responsibility to support their other teammates in their zone. The two of them, Sunny King and Josh Marshall, responded to this and for me were our best two for the day.
We have the next weekend off for the long weekend so there will be no training this Friday. I hope everyone enjoys the break and we all come back refreshed for a couple of upcoming challenging games.
