We have some great young guys within the community willing to give their time to coach our youth, “Not you Ash”. I went along to the Under 12 girls training last week and watched the girls enjoy what the coaches were telling them, during the social event some footy skills broke out and before long the girls were having a great time.
Callum Jackson and Josh Vinton are two young guys that are loving their job as coaches of 2 of the U12 Girls teams. The parents feel these guys are giving their all, I agree. I watched the second half of team Yellow play 2nd placed Port Colts at Boss James, Sunday. Port had thrashed our girls in earlier rounds. Watching Mia Stafford and Batman across half back repel the oppo time and again and the likes of the mids, Eloise, Mia, Mika and Daisy working the ball forward was wonderful to watch, some real skill and understanding of the game. Daisy went forward in the last and snagged 2 sausage rolls.

All our U15 lads are playing under a Zebbie banner this year, across three teams in different divisions. They are coached by another young gun coach in Andy Dinn, Andy was an assistant coach in the Interleague U14 squad this year. He is a young guy going places. Craig Perkins and Angus McNabb are working closely with Andy looking after the Div 1 team with Rover boys Charlie W, Angus Perko, Sammy Flock and Harry O all enjoying their first taste of Div 1 footy ever.
Several other Rover lads are playing D3 and 4 footy and loving the game: Nick Quinlan, Tommy R, Nat Burns, Thomas Pepicelli, Mighty Mitch Lever, Sammy Stewie, Hugo L, Sam C, James Chaddy, Darcy L, Tim C and Lucas Mac. If I have missed anyone, please let me know and I will dig up some dirt on them and share the love. D3 is 4th on the ladder and D4 is 3rd, looking good for finals.
As reported before young gun coaches Jesse Ray Sealey and Tom Marron are all over the Under 17 D2 squad as they go from strength to strength, currently 2nd with a big test this week to lock in top 2.
Jesse is a friend, yeh he’s been a good friend of mine…..Rick Springfield, eat your heart out.
One week to go before the Under 8-9 squads are lining up for their Lightning Carnivals. How exciting for the players and coaches, the negative is the season is almost done. I have a great sense of pride this time of the year as everyone is working hard, some towards finals, others can see the finish line and want to finish off another challenge that was started in February. IT’S A LONG WINTER WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE A SUNNY BREAK. To all you Team Managers and Coaches out there, keep up the great work, your Enthusiasm and Passion is what’s needed to show the kids no matter what the situation, if you are first on the ladder or close to last, the spirit of the game, participation and sense of fair play and belonging are vital.
Our jobs as community volunteers is more important towards the end of any good story, the decision to pick up the book and keep reading or give it a miss, in our case come back next year, register and do it all again.
I attended the Under 13 Pie night on Wednesday night and watched the boys enjoy a pie but far more importantly, just chill out and mingle, relax and chat. That is the essence of any great club, members feeling at home with no pressure to be anyone but yourself.
