On a cold and windy morning the gang looked pumped in the warm up for the final home and away game for the season. The nominated Captains for the day, Archer and Jack led from the front and reiterated the coaching group’s message pre game to share the ball. And with a resounding win 39 to 20 for the Home Team the only loser of the day was the Mr Whippy Van who helped empty Sam and Dan’s pockets, when we all enjoyed an ice cream with our first win of the season.
In the first quarter kicking into the wind Hudson V snapped truly for goal and Josh battled hard in the forward line in kicking two points (he was unlucky not to get a goal) to give the team a resounding lead. Tommy E battled hard in the middle and set the tone for the rest of the team to follow. In the second quarter the team kicked high and long into the wind. Jake kicked an amazing goal on the run and Fraser’s run from the backline ensured we could make the most of the strong Westerly wind. Hudson V kicked another great goal and Hannah’s forward pressure was Richmond like and was unlucky not to score what would have been a great goal from the middle of the pack. In the third quarter Tommy E continued his midfield dominance and Elijah’s setup from midfield ensured we continued our scoreboard pressure. Hudson D took an amazing mark in the back line and Hunter was a tackling machine. In the last quarter Sam’s message for all-out attack was taken to a new level and Josh was finally awarded for a huge kick for goal into the wind. Hunter and Jack B flew the flag for the mids and their pressure helped the team to a second resounding win for the season.
For the awards Captain Jack was rewarded for his hard work all day and Thomas Bently should be proud for how much he has improved over the last month due to all his hard work at training. Pocket Rocket Jake was rewarded for his pressure and the prestigious Beanie award for the RCD round was richly deserved by Elijah. Earlier in the week Elijah asked the coaching group to perform a role for the team on match day – a role that he performed to perfection.
For the second time this season the team sang with gusto even if the song sheet was required to be pulled from Melissa’s bag of tricks. Special mention should be made to the running prowess of Dan and Fraser’s ability to perform half asleep, whose flight from Bali landed at 12:30 am Sunday morning! Let’s hope the hard work and team ethos will be carried through to next week’s Lightning Carnival. Well done to all….
