The final match of the home away season saw the boys back at Castlefield for the Connor’s Beanie Round.
With the wind blowing a gale for the third week in a row the boys were ready for the conditions. The first quarter saw the boys get first run with the wind and as predicted it was having a massive affect on the game. It was a tight battle in the middle but the boys managed to keep it locked in the forward half with the ball not venturing to the opposition end. With the quarter coming to a close the boys had only managed to hit the scoreboard with minors but not from a lack of effort.
The second quarter saw the wind favour St Kilda but the boys did not lay down and played with incredible intensity. There was fierce battle in the midfield but St Kilda were able to go forward and hit the scoreboard without the Rovers seeing any change to their score.
The third came and the boys knew they were going to have to make the most of the wind this quarter. St Kilda took the initiative and against the run of play managed to get the ball forward for a minor score. The Rovers then had to stand up and went bursting forward to hit the scoreboard with their first major of the game.
The final quarter was primed for a spectacular finish to the season – and it didn’t let us down! St Kilda came out of the gates strong and scored twice with majors. With the wind blowing against them, the boys lifted their effort and intensity to new levels. Driving the ball out of the midfield and into the forward where the Rovers managed a goal into the wind! The mids got it back to the fowards and they kept troubling the scorers with another two minors. The siren came to early for the Rovers but hopefully the boys can take this effort into the Lightning Carnival and have a great day!
For the Connor’s Beanie Round the coaches had been given a beanie to award to the Best on Ground. When awarding the beanie they were encouraged to keep in mind the three words that have been used to describe Conner: Awesome, Determined & Committed. With Kai taking his game to the next level this round he was a very worthy winner. I am sure you would all agree he embodied these traits! Well done Kai and well done Rovers on another epic battle!
Best Regards,
Aaron.
