Under 14 Girls Orange vs Ajax (R1)

30 April 2019 by HRJ

The Rovers had a slow start with lots of girls finding their feet and working out their positions. The first quarter saw Ajax peppering the goals, scoring 6 goals and 9 behinds. In defence the Rovers laid some good tackles, including Shanti D, Emily T and Lizzie H. Unfortunately, Lizzie went off at quarter time with an injured hand and could not return for the rest of the game.

The Rovers picked up the pace in the second quarter. Lily Mc worked hard in the ruck and tackled fiercely around the ground. Shanti positioned herself well, had some key touches and took inspiring marks in defence. Lily J, playing up from U12s, kicked an excellent goal. Around the ground, strong marks were taken by Tess I, Millie C, Olive T, Lola D and Emma B. Elyse K displayed good kicking in her first AFL game. Our defence was strong and prevented Ajax from scoring all quarter.

In the third quarter, our defenders had to work harder as Ajax were kicking with the wind, scoring 4 goals and 3 behinds. Great defensive efforts were shown by Millie C, Elyse K and Lois O’C. Lily Mc continued her efforts in the ruck, assisted by Shanti in the centre. Around the ground Madison S, Olive T and Tess I worked hard to move the ball forward. Against the play, the Rovers worked the ball down the ground, with good running by Ava O’K, and Emily T kicked a goal.

The defensive pressure continued in the last quarter. Millie C had some important kicks out of defence. Emma B and Elyse K showed excellent defensive body work and tackling. Emily T, Chloe S and Lola D worked hard around the ground. Lily J took a strong mark. Lily Mc was tireless with her tackles and kicked a point. The opposition scored 2 goals in the quarter.

In the wrap up, the coach recognised Shanti D, Lily Mc and Elyse K with awards. The girls who played their first games were congratulated – Elyse K, Lois O’C, Millie C and Madison S. Thanks went to the U12 girls who played in the team – Lola D, Olive T, Chloe S and Lily J.
