Under 9 Orange vs East Sandringham (R1)

1 May 2019 by HRJ

First game of the new season and the weather really turned it on for us at Boss James!

It was awesome to have all the kids and parents back together and to welcome our new team members – Aloysius, Ethan and Efstratios. All the kids playing today had a great game and showed the effort that has been put into training in the pre-season. It was an energetic game with lots of tackles, great marks, good rucks, awesome defending and big kicks up and down the ground.

The game got off to a great start with lots of the possession and a couple of great marks from our forwards. The pace of the game and the strength of our kids has increased from last year, and we showed that we wanted the ball and wanted to get some goals. In the second quarter there was lots of on the ground action. We were energetic and some very good defensive marks to stop the other team.

Then came the rain…and a very cold half time talk from Sam and Dan. It seemed a little bit like the weather at last year’s first game, but this year the team know the game more and are all stronger players. After the oranges and snakes and listening to Sam we were back out there in the rain to start the third quarter. The rain made the ball slippery, and it was cold, but our team did some great defending again and moved the ball around the field really well.

The sun came out for the final quarter. First game back, and some of the team were getting tired and were cold from being wet, but we kept pushing forward, as well as some great stops of the other team.

At the final siren, our team had played an AMAZING first game – shown how much they have all grown in the last year, and what AWESOME team spirit they have. There were lots of pats on backs, smiles and kids having fun and looking out for each other. Also lots of effort, BIG kicks, strong tackles and great ENERGY. Go Rovers!!! Under 9’s ORANGE!!!
