Under 8 Blue vs East Malvern (R4)

21 May 2019 by HRJ

In what was a perfect day for footy, the script was set as two powerhouse teams, both undefeated, converged on Castlefield Oval to battle it out.

Ably lead by Jules and Bails, the team ran out into the field ready for action. Within a few minutes of play, it was clear this would be the Rovers’ toughest task to date. However, they were up to the challenge, with Jake sweeping across half-back and mopping up the loose ball.

Ned played a standout game as he seemed to be doing it all – pinch hitting in the ruck and combing well, and helping Tommy run into an open goal and kick truly on a 45 degree angle.

It was great to see the hard work at training pay off, with so many players developing their game-time skills.

Ollie is fast becoming an in-and-under mid-fielder and was tough in the clinches, feeding the ball to his teammates, who were eagerly awaiting a quick-fire handball.

With a glimpse to the future, there was even a little razzle dazzle from Coby who sold some candy and Nathan, who took two bounces, as he powered his way down the wing.

Ed showed great tenacity as he racked up the stats with ease and much to the relief of his teammates, Cal took an important goal saving mark in the square.

Jules then went on to kick a great captain’s goal, while Elliot got busy creating scoring opportunities by weaving in and out of traffic at will.

Liam owned the premiership quarter as he swooped on the loose ball and ran into an open goal. He had the ball on a string and showed great desperation in the forward line and delivered on a plate to his teammates. A dominant display.

Brody took advantage of Tommy’s lace-out delivery and put his hand up for mark of the round, by taking a beauty in the pocket. He would later show the same determination as he streamed out of the centre, scoring a major.

As always, Jase showed his class by causing problems for the opposition and scored the sealer, by snapping truly in tight. Great goal sense.

It was a true team performance, and the coaches had their work cut out for them selecting the post-match awards, but in the end, there were four deserved winners. Ned, Liam, Jase and Will – take a bow – some great moments of individual brilliance, as you all worked together for the T-E-A-M.

Great job boys – till next week.
