Under 13 Div 6 vs Oakleigh (R7)

18 June 2019 by HRJ

With two solid training sessions during the week I had a good feeling the team is really starting to gel. By the end of the first half, I could see it!!! We kicked more scores than we had all year, we marked more kicks than we have and our tackling and aggression was first rate.

At quarter time we were down 1.2.8 to 0.0.0, but what a second quarter! We kicked 4.1.25 that started with Angus marking in the goal square and playing on, followed by a goal to Camdyn and two ripper goals to Charlie. We led by 10 points at the half. The vibe in the rooms at half time was sensational and the boys were up.

At three quarter time we were up by 4 points and found ourselves down by a goal with seconds left on the clock. Then up stepped Camdyn. His goal with a minute to go was just unbelievable. A difficult kick, a banana adjacent to the behind post, and a goal more than worthy of Eddie Betts AFL standard!

This led to a draw which in the end was a fairly fitting result as both teams really left it all out there on the field, it was a great battle to be a part of. Even though it was a draw, the reality is this team is continually getting better and were close to that first win. It was great to sing the theme song at the end of the game, and great to hear Oakleigh sing theirs too, as we are all trying our best.

Dion, Luca and Jasper were all were fantastic, their intensity was sensational. It’s great to see another bunch of kids stepping up now instead of the usual suspects who once again were superb. Kai, Anastasi, Mitch and Marco also played great games.

See you Tuesday and Friday for training, make sure you have stretched those hammys!!!! For those that can’t get their kids to training, feel free to hit me up for a ride as I’d rather them there than not!!!

Go Rovers!!!

Hampton 5.5.35
Oakleigh 5.5.35

Coach – Bill Barbas
