On a fresh Sunday morning at Castlefield Reserve, we took on Ormond. Both teams were chasing a vital first win of the main season.
Oliver and Dan S were our captains for the day and both didn’t disappoint by playing superbly for the entire match. In a very open style game that had players trying to play around the centre mud cricket pitches, both tams kicked a goal in the first quarter. Jack C was sent forward for the first time this season with great success, using his speed to break from the pack and score our opening goal.
In the second quarter, Ormond were finding players on the outside and using spare players to link up, which resulted in a small lead at the main break.
In the third quarter, the game lifted as the scores remained within a kick. The football was getting heavier due to the mud in the middle and we started to close the space on Ormond which resulted in a tight contest. Baxter was showing off his brilliance in defensive by reading the play extremely well, Theeran was our rock on the last line, Oliver kicked an amazing goal and was strong in close all game. Harry continued to rack up the touches and Dan S was in everything.
In the final quarter, Ormond kicked an early goal but to our boys’ credit we kept on coming with goals to Jade and another one to Jack C. Unfortunately, again the siren came at the wrong time as we were going forward looking to register our first win of the main season. Another game so close, with no bench at the end and with some injured players.
The effort in the last quarter showed that the boys are eager to fight the fight until the final siren, which is pleasing, we just need to put a 4 quarter effort in going forward.
Big challenge next week against a top team in St Kilda.
