Hello everyone and welcome to another fun-filled year at Hampton Rovers!
We have a few new faces on the committee this year, led by a super eager guy that has been on the committee for three years, Rohan Bardwell.
Rohan is aware he has taken over a role with big shoes to fill. He is up for the challenge and is passionate about the Green and Gold.
Pre-season is underway for some of the older age groups, U11-17 boys and girls have all had a taste of the Sherrin in 2020. Nature turned on a great Sunday morning at the beach and Leedsy, Steve and Jules, with several coaches, got stuck into several stations that saw plenty of positive energy.
With the early bird registration finished, the Club can report we are well ahead in registration as opposed to this time last year. Around 440 members have already committed. That’s positive, but we need everyone’s help to get the registrations to where they need to be.
The following age groups are either top heavy for one team, or light on for two teams. The Committee have looked at many options and people are working behind the scenes to balance out as many teams as possible.
We are chasing more members for the following teams.
Boys
U8
U11
U12
U17
Girls
U10
U12
U16
U18
- We need another 10 boys or girls to play U8 footy in two teams this year.
- U10 Girls could do with four to five more budding champions.
- U11 require a further five to finalise four teams by the first of March, please get the word out there.
- U12 Girls need a few more, with some great initiatives coming.
- U12 need four to five more boys to finalise two teams.
- U18 ladies need a real boost of more than 10 players
A special shout out to the Under 14 boys age group that did it very tough last year with minimal numbers to field two teams. It goes to show how vital it is to keep as many children happy as possible in the early years to guarantee two health teams in the older age years. Our lads have gone from 37 players in 2019 to 28 in 2020 – it’s never ideal being in this position.
A subcommittee was formed in early February to attract as many girls as possible to the club. School clinics are underway. Please stand by for more information.
We are in constant communication with East Sandringham JFC regarding numbers and will meet with them again in the next two weeks.
We are also still looking for coaches in a hand full of teams. If you have time to offer in a volunteer role either as a coach, assistant coach, Team Manager or on the committee, please don’t hesitate to stick your hand up (and email either me or Rohan).
Everything is coming together for another action-packed, fun-filled year. I look forward to welcoming our next group of Under 8 players into this great club – the young families don’t know it yet, but they are about to embark on one of life’s great journeys!
Aussie Rules! BRING IT ON.
Always Remember, PASSION TEAMWORK FUN RESPECT
Cheers,
CAGGS
