Keeping our spirits high
Hello Hampton Rovers Families!
If you were to check your calendar right now, you would be surprised to see that Friday 17 April was due to be our season launch. How different 2020 has turned out to be!
Ahhhh – the season launch. The night where we head down to The Boss, the excited players would be presented with their season guernsey and number, the parents – some who haven’t seen each other since the last season – would be catching up on long lost times over a drink at the bar and a sausage from the Hamptons barbie in hand.
While we aren’t able to enjoy our season launch together right now, I’m hopeful that we will be coming together very soon.
SMJFL 2020 conference update
The SMJFL 2020 Conference was a few weeks ago. Instead of an opportunity to get to meet other local footy presidents face to face, we chatted over a Zoom call – something that I’m sure you are all getting very used to!
The hot topic? When can we get our kids playing again! Of course, we need to listen and act on Government, medical and AFL advice, but the SMJFL are working through scenarios and hopeful season kick-offs.
A later kick off would logically mean less games, but some of the scenarios are looking at how we could get the most out of the season – with one scenario meaning we could get around 8 action-packed games for our Under 8s through to Under 11s, and around 10 for the older age groups. Seeing that we normally have 13 games for the younger age groups and 15 for the older age groups, that would be pretty good. But before you get your diary out, we’ll keep you updated on the changes.
Use your iso time as fitness time
This is the perfect time to be honing new footy skills at home and keeping the fitness levels tip top. To help, we have a series of fitness and skills videos on Facebook, on Instagram and on our website. Thanks to Marc from MSHF Training for pulling three of these togethers, as well as our Steve Nelson, Julian Sill and Justin Clarkson, brilliant Rovers Coaches, for getting the kids together and filming some great skills sessions. And we’ve got some great ones coming.
Please help your kids during this time with their fitness and their skills. This is great opportunity for the mums and dads to grab the footy and help keep our young boys and girls ready and itching to play.
Iso time is also admin time
Once the season does kick off, we will need to be ready to go in lightening speed. That means that we will also need our volunteers, complete with the checks and qualifications done.
All volunteers on game days need to have a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC). So please use the time to apply online.
Your Team Manager will be in touch at the appropriate time to ensure that we have all the right documentation and qualifications recorded, so please help them out and act on this quickly.
Desperately seeking an awesome HRJ Committee Secretary
One of the critical roles on the HRJ Committee is that of Secretary. If the life of isolation has made you realise that you have a bit more time on your hands, we’d love to hear from you. We are seeking an organised and passionate individual who can dedicate around 3 to 5 hours a week, who can provide the appropriate administrative support to the Junior President (that’s me), the Junior Club Committee and sub-committees to ensure the efficient operation of the Club. Please email me to let me know that you are interested.
Sponsors shout out
A massive shout out to OUR AWESOME SPONSORS who have continued to support us during these difficult times. The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that many of our sponsors are also doing it tough. Please remember to support those that support the club, and let them know that you appreciate the support!
#RoversPassion
Finally, we want to keep the Rovers Passion alive and we need you! During these uncertain times, we need to stick together as a community so that we are together, even when we are apart.
How can we do this? Wear your Rovers gear with pride and passion! If you or your HRJ players are popping down to the supermarket for essentials, throw on a Rovers cap. If you are exercising in the park, wear a Rovers hoodie. If you are taking the dog for a walk, wear a Rovers Jacket. We’ll catch a glimpse of each other and know that we are in this together.
Share your photos on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #RoversPassion so that we can share even further and keep the Club alive.
Until next time, stay safe and wash your hands. Go Rovers!
Rohan Bardwell
HRJ President
