What a wonderful sight!
Hello Rovers Families,
Lights on at Boss James, Castlefield Reserve and Peterson Oval. A buzz in the air. Kids laughing, having fun. Some training taking place. YES, FOOTY’S BACK!
First, I must thank all parents for completing the COVID-19 briefings with their kids that was sent out a few weeks ago. Numerous spot checks were performed at training sessions over the last two weeks and all kids were adhering to the protocols put in place, which was fantastic to see.
And while footy training is back, the good news keeps on coming. Many of you would have seen recent announcements from the Victorian Government and AFL Victoria that community sport and competition football is scheduled to return mid-July. The SMJFL has also announced that they are targeting a season return from Sunday 12 July, with games being played right through to 13 September 2020.
The SMJFL is awaiting Return to Play protocols from AFL Victoria and will communicate the protocols to clubs as soon as this information comes to hand. We will in turn communicate to all Team Managers and members as soon as we are briefed.
Given the season will most likely kick off in a little under four weeks, this means every team must urgently ensure all voluntary team roles are filled and compliance for those roles is fully completed. It is especially important that all WWCC are completed. Please see additional information in today’s newsletter.
With the great news the season is looking to get underway, registrations are still open to play footy with the mighty Hampton Rovers Juniors. If you haven’t registered your child, or you know of any other family members or friends who want to play, please sign them up via the website as soon as possible. We are always looking to welcome new players, especially girls who are keen to play as we expand our female football program.
When I reflect on the past four months, it has been a bumpy start to the footy season, but we’ve stayed connected as a club. We’ve had bi-weekly committee meetings, regular briefings with the SMJFL, updates for coaches, team managers, volunteers and parents. Given everything that has occurred globally, it’s been amazing that we have been able to get back to training, let alone potentially playing competitive footy in four weeks’ time. Who would have thought?!?
Bring it on!!!
