PASSION TEAMWORK FUN RESPECT
More of the spring feeling please, I mean what a morning, walked the dog to Greens Point and back and must say, the comparison from last Sunday when the dog could be blown off the chain was crazy. This means one thing, Spring equals finals footy time.
Fionola and myself have reached out to some families to get a better understanding of what our club represents. We will send out some messages via social media over the next few months to make sure we all ride the wave that has clearly been enjoyed.
This message is from the Bouge family: Josh (U13) Max (U11) Hannah (U8)
After having to watch her two older brothers play every Sunday, Hannah has finally had her chance to play on the big stage for the ‘Mighty Rovers’. There can be no denying it – She has absolutely loved every minute of it!!
She has had a ball of fun playing with her friends, and as a result there have been plenty of ‘Sunday Smiles’ at our place as game day rolls around.
It is without a shadow of a doubt, a great and well-run club, with stellar people everywhere. ‘Go Rovers’!
Sometimes as a committee we second guess ourselves what value we offer our members, thanks to Adam and Kate for this strong message.
Went along to see the U12 girls play their hearts out and saw these cherubs cowering under a rug or three, these Rover champs love the club and being social of course.
Before I went to see the U12 Girls I watched my eldest son play in the 2nd Semi U16 D1, these lads are into the GF. The merge of Rover and Zebs teams continues to evolve, let’s hope we can grab the D1 flag, these lads have been outstanding, well managed and brilliantly coached.
A shout out to Greg Miller who coached the U16D2 team, Greg was all over the list from day 1 of preseason. This allowed Greg and Brett to worry about pure coaching. Plenty going on in the background at this level with APS footy commitments and the like, busy boys and clubs that love what they offer.
Our U11 team under Damien Garlick as coach are into the GF this Sunday, we wish them well. They beat St Peters on their home turf, our boys played a great brand of wet weather footy, although freezing, very satisfied with their win, GO BOYS!
Our Under 14 D4 lads won their first semi and play in the Prelim this week. With numbers coming back nothing will get in the way as this group will forge ahead and win their way into the GF the following Sunday.
Our U18 Ladies are the feel good story of the weekend. With mostly bottom age girls, this tight knit group have loved life under coaches, Richard and Jacko, they have loved every minute and showed great composure in the dying minutes to win a close game and will enjoy their first taste of Grand Final Fever, a motorcade down South Road next Friday morning is organised, stay tuned for details.
Last night I went along on a balmy night to watch the U16s train and noticed the U8 Maroon having their B&F presentation, a real family affair, bar open, pizza delivered, speeches and a presentation to the B&F winner who was streaming live into Boss James from London, UK. Congrats Harry Edwards.
Rohan and Ben did and awesome job leading this group of children.
Archie Roberts U13 D1 and Oliver Howell U13 D3 along with Gideon Ziesing and Hudson Jongen both Under 11 have all been invited to the League B&F on September 5th, good luck guys.
It’s not just the feedback from the parents but the stars of the show are being asked to write 50 words on why they love Footy, Rovers and a line or two about their coach. The winner from each team gets to keep the game ball their team played with this year, we will publish all winners over the next few months.
Finally, I need to make mention of this lady, Amy Stokes, mother of Chris (U17) and Angus (U15). Amy is the TM’s manager and a whole lot more than that. This lady loves community and helping out, we cross paths every Sunday (several times) at either Boss James or Castlefield, she will hate me for highlighting her.
Do me a favor, when you see her, please thank her for the many hours of work she puts into our club.
OK, that’s week one of the finals. Let’s get behind Griffo’s U14 D4 boys, plus the U17 Sandy Rovers this week and watch them work their way into the GF the following week and Damo’s lads who will be scratching and clawing every inch towards the Holy Grail on Sunday.
