Footy Manager’s Report – Round 15

15 August 2018 by Paul Carrigan

Passion Teamwork Fun Respect

Without sounding like a broken record from last week, what a week for highs and lows.

Firstly, to Tim Sutherland and the Under 12 D2 team, you showed the very essence of what our club is all about. Tim, you are a class act, your coaches report is what I hold dear to my heart. I will not rewrite this here, but I encourage all members and greater community to spend 3 minutes and read what took place with this team the past 9 days. To you Tim, Chris, Di and Paul and more importantly the players of U12 D2 we salute your efforts. You can read Tim’s report here.

Congrats to Miles Bergman, our U17 player who has played several games for TAC and a few in the Rovers men’s team. Miles was selected in the U17 Vic Metro team and played against NSW/ACT last Sunday and was listed in the better players. The St Bedes gun is a natural athlete who won many state long and triple jump titles, GO MILES.

Shout out to old mate, Toby Clarkson. I was at the U10 Lightning Carnival last Sunday and watched Toby warm up, he said his hand hurt. I told him “it’s lucky you are tough like your dad” he went on and played a great game only to find out his hand was broken, fast recovery Tobes.

Marcus, Bec and the Mighty U10 Purple, 2 wins from 3 games at the Lightning Carnival, great season guys.

It’s a game built on emotion, Dave Burton was magnificent in his post season address and thanks to his mighty team. Premiers one year and all about development the next, that’s life, well done boys, THANKS DAVE.

Like Dave, Ash Roberts spoke from the heart following his two years at the helm with Sean Carroll leading the U13 D1 team, great reward for a long year showing Ashwood how the Boss is played. The U13 squad are playing West Coast Eagles from, Perth, Saturday morning, 10.30am at Boss James, pop down.

Congratulations to all teams that played through the home and away season, we witnessed plenty of thrills and spills, we met new friends and witnessed a new breed of Rovers that lived the Mantra, we now look forward to seeing plenty of girls and boys play finals.

Let’s look at all Rover players that will pull the boots on this weekend.

East Sandringham Zebs have a few members in our U18 Ladies team, likewise we have several young ladies that play in the Zebs U14 and 16 girls teams, Our U18 ladies are playing at Princess Hwy at 3.10pm and the Zebs U14 D1 at Highett at 1.00pm.

Under 12 Girls are shooting for back to back flags, get along to McKinnon Reserve at 12.45pm.

U14 D4, Griffo’s lads at playing at EE Gunn at 10.30, if they play to their strengths they can beat anyone.

Our U15 Lads are well represented in 3 Zebs teams this Sunday. D1 at 1pm at Walter Galt, D3 at 1pm at McKinnon and D4 at 1.30pm at EE Gunn, get along and show your Rovers colours.

The U17 D2 are playing at 3pm at Toorak Park, no pressure lads, I expect plenty though.

Under 16 D1 at 10.30am also at Toorak Park, playing Vamps, enough said.

U11 Purple at 10.30am, Centenary Park against St Peters, GO BOYS.

The very best of luck to all.

To all the fathers playing this Saturday in the Battle of the boots, Good luck, GO ST MARY’s.

Have a great weekend everyone.
