Getting Ready for a Big 2021 Season

15 March 2021 by Rohan Bardwell

Thank you to all those players and families that have now registered to play in the 2021 season. I’d like to welcome those new families that are joining the Hampton Rovers Juniors for the first time. I’m sure you will get just as much enjoyment from the club as our returning members do.

We are planning a number of social activities this year, in line with COVID-19 safety protocols. Please make sure you save the dates and book early to secure spots. Numbers will be capped.

Yesterday morning (Sunday 14 March), I attended the SMJFL season launch at Sportscover Arena in Brighton. One of the key themes that came out of the morning session was the challenges and pressures lockdowns created for families and the critical importance that community sports play in our lives. Not only for the kids, but also parents and grandparents. Being able to get to a junior game as a family and spend some much needed time together is important. From that end, we are hoping some announcements will be made soon on easing of attendance restrictions at junior football games.

In saying, that I’m extremely excited that we are only 33 days from the season opening game… can you believe it???

Next week all age groups will start their preseason training and there will also be some practice matches before the first game.

Don’t forget the pop up merchandise sale Saturday 27 March for all your footy gear. Your Dentistree, one of our Business Directory sponsors, will also be in attendance on the day, completing mouthguard fittings at the Castlefield Change Rooms. This is a great opportunity to get a properly fitting mouthguard, while also supporting our local dentist partner.

I’m looking forward to seeing all the teams at training next week and a big thank you to all of this year’s coaches and team managers.
