Under 10 Girls Yellow v East Malvern (R9) - On this nice and chilly Sunday morning, The Hampton Rovers Roses ventured out to East Malvern for the clash against a very well performed and experienced team. Due to many girls being away for the holiday period we only had 10 players and were happy to be advised by the East Malvern coach upon arrival that they had similar issues and exactly the same number of players. Jazzey C and Jazzey T were announced as Captains for the day and the scene was set for a big game after winning the toss and kicking to what ended up being the scoring end all day. Each team had 4 girls in the middle and only 3 forwards / defenders and we… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Girls vs Mordi Brae (R8) - UNDER 10 GIRLS v MORDIALLOC BRAESIDE (R8) JUNE 23, 2019 BY SEAN BRADY The girls returned to the home of football, Boss James Reserve, for the clash against Mordialloc Braeside. The warm-up commenced inside the rooms before running onto the ground as one as the fog was starting to rise. Jazzey T was welcomed to the team for her first game of football as Audrey P and Jazzey C were announced as captains for the day. Mark Parker was on debut as our team umpire and right from the first bounce it was clear that the Rovers girls had come to play. Tilly and Jazzey led from the front in the middle and were well supported by Jess T and… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Girls vs St Peters (R7) - A clear message was conveyed to the girls that they were taking on an extremely strong side in St Peter’s this week. Experienced division and defence, and accountability was the cornerstone of our plans for this match. The parents all had smiles on their faces with the late game time of 1.45pm, the sun was shining nicely, and the girls warmed up strongly in preparation for the big challenge ahead of them at Castlefield Reserve. Jess W and Sienna were announced as our captains for the day and won the toss which was a good start to proceedings. Jasmyn B was sent to the last line of defence and was joined by a very strong and experienced defensive group of… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Girls vs South Melbourne (R6) - The girls took on a very strong South Melbourne side who had gone through the grading games undefeated. Training had been cancelled during the week due to the horrendous Melbourne weather and there was some risk that the girls were going in slightly underdone. We were lucky that it was a fine morning as the lack of changerooms down at Albert Park would have made for unpleasant viewing if the Rovers support team were all getting wet. The offer from the South Melbourne coach to play 5/5/5 due to both teams having extra numbers was politely declined after lessons learned in relation to congestion the week before (I was also reminded during the week that league rules do not permit… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Girls Yellow vs East Brighton (R5) - The sun was shining brightly for our return to ‘The Home of Football’, Boss James Reserve. The girls had been moved to the experienced division following the completion of the grading games and we knew before showing up on Sunday that more stern competition was coming our way. The girls were taking on the East Brighton Vampires top U10 girls team after comprehensively outplaying their second team the week prior. Lealah was introduced and welcomed to the team prior to the game which took us to a full list of 18. Hannah and Tess were announced as our captains for the day and won the toss to give us first use of the breeze. Right from the first bounce it… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Girls vs East Brighton Vampires (R4) - The sun was out, and our girls were given a prime time kick off time of 2.20pm for our Round 4 clash against the East Brighton Vampires. Aside from Hannah, who was at the MCG improving her skills at a footy clinic, we had a full list of 16 girls to take on the scarily-named Vampires. Sixteen was a perfect number of players as each girl had a go in each of the three zone areas plus one quarter on the pine – well on the grass anyway! Sophie and Michaela were announced as our captains for the day and we didn’t mind losing the toss and being asked to kick into a slight breeze plus uphill in the first… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Girls vs Ormond (R3) - Our girls ventured back to Castlefield Reserve for our round three clash against Ormond. Unfortunately, Ormond only had four players and we had no hesitation to give them six of our players so we could play 10 per side. It shows the depth of our numbers as we had 16 Rovers girls and Jasmyn was sick. To the girls’ credit, none of them complained at all about having to turn their jumper inside out and play for Ormond. All of them had their turn and tried their best when representing the other team. The girls understood that they were better off doing that rather than the game being called off or having to sit on the bench with us. Tilly,… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Girls vs Beaumaris (R2) - The girls didn’t spend much time dwelling over our narrow two point loss in our first game. They were keen to make amends in round two. The effort on the training track during the week was first class and the focus was clearly on kicking long and tackling hard. Round 2 couldn’t come quickly enough and we were forgiven for thinking that we had arrived at the Adelaide Oval rather than Beaumaris Secondary College. The MCC signage should have been a giveaway that we weren’t playing on a standard suburban oval. The changerooms were better than those on offer at Marvel Stadium and the atmosphere in the rooms before the game was full of excitement and expectation. There must be… Continue Reading...
Under 10 Girls vs East Malvern (R1) - Our much-awaited round one clash took place at Boss James Reserve vs East Malvern. The girls had been training really well in the lead up and there were lots of smiling faces as they arrived at the ground. The enthusiasm of the group was shining through as footies were flying everywhere in the rooms before the game. The light rain that had started to fall was not noticed by any of the girls who were keen to exit the changerooms for a warm up outside. I’m sure that there were some butterflies floating around as our newly formed girls team finalised their preparations before the first bounce. Sienna showed her bravery after getting hit in the head with a wayward… Continue Reading...
