Hello Rovers Families,
I hope everyone is remaining positive and was able to enjoy parts of the weekend outside as part of your exercise routines. My family headed out for some much needed fresh air and bike ride along the beach (within our 5km limit of course).
It is extremely disappointing that we have to endure another weekend without football or community sport. The positive news is I’ve just gotten off a Presidents meeting with the SMJFL. The SMJFL are still focused on keeping the season alive to give the kids an opportunity to play a few more games before we handover to the cricket clubs in mid-September.
All going well, the proposed plan will hopefully see us return to football on 22 August and play three rounds plus a Grand Final weekend on 12 September with first on the ladder versus the second, third vs fourth, fifth vs sixth, etc. If additional lockdowns occur, then the effected weekend would be removed from the remaining scheduled games.
This is a proposed schedule and kick off is dependent on when the Victorian Government eases restrictions.
While the season has been impacted, it’s important we maximise as many games for the kids as possible.
Updates will come through via your Team Managers.
I would like to also send a massive shout out to Bella Eddy from North Melbourne AFLW and Miles Bergman from Port Adelaide AFL for sending through video messages of support for all the junior players to keep their spirits up. If you haven’t seen them, jump onto Facebook or Instagram to show the kids (and give them a like or a share). Bella has brothers currently playing at the Rovers, and Miles played his junior career at the Rovers. Bella has played every game with North this season. Miles was nominated for the AFL Rising Star after a fantastic game against Adelaide last weekend. Thanks Bella and Miles!
To all the families and kids out there, remember to keep your fitness and football skills up as there is still life in the season. Don’t forget to utilise our great footy training videos and wear your Rovers gear with pride.
Take care. Go Rovers!
