President’s Report – Finals Week 2

29 August 2018 by Jason Nicholl

Well I think the weather gods must have read my report last week. Sunday was chalk and cheese from the week before and with good football weather came some fantastic contests. At the pointy end of the season I get to see all of the games. As did many of the parents, siblings, family, volunteers, committee and Rovers Faithful. Congrats to all those that represented Rovers on the weekend as you once again did us proud on and off the field.

Firstly to our U11 team in their Grand Final. You fought hard all day to unfortunately go down on the scoreboard in the latter stages of the game. You played with the intensity and skills beyond your years. It was an absolute pleasure to watch you play. You were well coached and played as a great team of mates that love the game. Unlucky with the result but be proud of all you have achieved over the season. See you all again in 2019.

For our U14s it was again do or die in the Prelim Final. Whilst we came up short against a strong opposition, you gave it your all and had every chance to win (well done). It was great to see how much you have all improved as individuals but most importantly as a team this year. Well done on a great season. I look forward to you all returning next year stronger, faster and wiser and get that extra step closer to the big show in 2019. What a great bunch of mates in the green and gold.

Finally our U17s. Your focus was on the football and outplaying the opposition in every position at every contest. It was a game plan that worked perfectly. Up against tough opposition you kept your focus (and your cool) to dominate. If you carry this belief and behaviour into this weeks game you will be very hard to beat. Play the game your way boys. As this is your last junior game for Hampton Rovers but certainly not your last at the club, enjoy all the day has in store for you. Thank you on behalf of all the members for becoming the gentlemen you have. Play your last U17 game with the smile that you had on your face at your first day at Rovers. All the best!!!

Boss James again was the focal point for some great footy with many people joining us to support the club and enjoy great football. This continues this Sunday with Rovers hosting 5 games on Grand Final Day. We have three grand finals and two exhibition matches. AFL clubs (and players) will be present so please come down and enjoy the day.

Good luck to each of our three teams playing this week in the grand final (U16 boys, U17 boys and U18 girls). You have already made us proud throughout the year but getting to the grand final is such a massive achievement. Enjoy your day, play your hearts out, and if you are lucky enough to win, sing the song louder than you have ever done before. I have often said it’s not all about winning premiership at Hampton Rovers, but winning one will be a memory you will have forever with your Rovers Friends. Play well, Play Fair, and most of all enjoy every moment of it. See you all on Sunday!!!
