It’s been a tough week for footy. I hope everyone is keeping safe and well in these challenging times.
Without a doubt, this has been a difficult week for everyone in our community as we all contemplate the ‘new normal’ that has been created as a result of the new novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
We have been bombarded with messages about nation lock downs, escalating anxiety, major events cancelled and the correct way to wash and dry our hands (which is super important).
Following our decision last week to suspend training and matches until further notice, the Hampton Rovers Committee has been committed to ensuring that we are ready to play as soon as we have the green light from the SMJFL.
Tomorrow (Sunday) I will participate in the SMJFL Club Conference where the number one agenda item is COVID-19. I will update you all on the progress that we make in this meeting, including how we hope to get our teams out and about as quickly (and safely) as possible.
Until then, I encourage you all to still get out there and help your kids build their skills by playing with and touching the footy. Justin, one of our coaches, has put together some drills that can be done solo or with a sibling, parent or friend. Social isolation is the perfect environment for doing kick to kick – 1.5 metres apart. Check out the details here. We are also investigating developing an online training program to help all of our young players keep their skills top notch.
Stay safe. Wash your hands. Go Rovers!
