This is the week that fills me with many mixed emotions every year. Sunday marked the formal end of the home and away season for 2019. Congrats to all of our amazing kids for the Passion, Teamwork, Fun and Respect in 2019. It’s been an absolute delight seeing how much fun the kids have had this year and how much they have improved. I’m proud that we are able to provide a safe and inclusive environment for each of our more than 600 kids this year. I hope that many of our kids, parents and volunteers come back for another season in 2020.
To the teams that finished the year at the top of the lightning premierships or as minor premiers – well done on the focus and teamwork to come out on top. It’s great that you were rewarded for your effort.
A massive GOOD LUCK to our 7 teams competing in the semi-finals this weekend (U11 D3, U12 D1, U12 D6, U12 D2G, U14 D5, U14 D1, U16 D3). We also have a number of girls playing on loan to the Zebs in U16 D1G – good luck to you all!!! Please get to the games this weekend and support all of our players – we’d love to see you. We also host finals at Boss James this weekend so please get down to see some amazing football. The standard will be high with the U16 D1 and U17 D1 semi-finals on.
Thanks again to our sponsors and volunteers in 2019. Without you we simply cannot operate week in week out. I really hope you can help us again in 2020. I also hope more of our parents (particularly in the younger age groups) consider volunteering or sponsoring the club. We need nearly 300 people each week to be able to field our teams so please help us. Being part of Rovers is certainly one of the most rewarding roles I have done. We can always improve with your help.
The Final Round for Me
This week also my last as the President of the Hampton Rovers Juniors. Wow …. That was hard to say. I love our club. I love our Rovers Community. When I look back to all that we (as a club) have achieved over the five years while I have been Vice President then President a lot has changed. We saw an additional 400 kids pull on the boots each weekend. We have matured our policies and procedures to have a more efficient and inclusive club for everyone. We have had amazing success with Girls footy. And we have a mantra that is genuinely understood and believed by kids, coaches and parents. Whilst this is my last year as President – I will always be part of the Rovers Family. It has been an absolute privilege working with some amazing people at the club and I have made some life-long friends. To all those that helped me, and most importantly Rovers, thank you!!
I believe very strongly in the strategy we put in place five years ago to create a pathway from Auskick to Seniors and want see this continue long into the future. The Hampton Rovers Football Club is one of the most progressive, inclusive and community engaged clubs in the SMJFL/VAFA and long shall it remain that way. What started and a community club 90 years ago, should always remain all about the kids and the players. Rovers will always be a part of me and my family.
Next year we welcome Rohan Bardwell as the Hampton Rovers Juniors President. Rohan has been on the HRJ committee several years now and is a great leader. The club is in excellent hands going into 2020. Please join me in welcoming Rohan into the role in 2020. I also ask that you help him and the fellow committee members by volunteering at the club in any way you can next year.
Finally – I would like to thank Emma, Gabi and Josh for allowing me the time to dedicate to the club over the years and for being great examples of the Rovers Community, always helping at any point. Bring on the finals and season 2020. Oh I do love to be beside the seaside…
I look forward to seeing many smiling faces play again this weekend. I also look forward to many many more years as a passionate part of the Rovers Family. Always green and gold!!!
Passion, Teamwork, Fun and Respect
Kindest Regards
Jason
