President’s Report – Round 9

6 July 2019 by Jason Nicholl

Sunday Funday
I woke up early Sunday and the sun was shining, it looked like a great day for footy. That was until I stepped outside! Whilst the sun was blazing down on us it was still clearly a winters day in Melbourne. Despite the rain the day before our grounds were in pretty good condition. I was able to find spots out of the wind and watch some pretty high standard football. All of the hard work before and in the early stages of the season was clearly evident now. From our U8s to our U18’s, all have improved a lot throughout the year. Well done to you all.

Whilst the day was mixed with respect to results it was great to see the way our kids went about their football. Our mantra was reflected in spades. Passion, Teamwork, Fun and Respect. An extra big shout out to the players, parents and volunteers that offered, played or helped in extra games on the weekend. The school holiday season always makes it a little bit harder to find players. It’s a great time of year for our kids to make some more friends when they help out other teams. A quick reminder to parents to check with team managers and coaches on the number of games your child has player in higher ranked teams to avoid locking themselves into teams. As a general rule its six games up and you can’t drop back. Please check the SMJFL website for more info.

90/40 results
On a very different note, I would like to proudly announce that our 90/40 celebration raised over Twelve Thousand Dollars for the club. A massive thanks to those that helped organise the event and a special thanks to those that attended, participated (and won) the auction items etc. To those that donated prizes and auction items – thanks from the kids !! The valuable funds raised will go towards minor club improvements (scoreboards, pads, goalposts) and/or equipment (footballs, coaches bags etc). With a couple more At Home With The Rovers to come we welcome further donations. It’s never too late to help out.

Our Major Sponsors
Did you know that our two major sponsors Buxton and Brighton Mazda both have referral programs. If you buy or rent a house through Buxton Sandringham or buy (or service) a Mazda at Brighton Mazda the club gets a referral. If you, or your business, can make use of those services please make sure you mention you are from Hampton Rovers Football Club. Thanks again to Buxton and Brighton Mazda for their amazing support of our club.

Season 2020
We want you. We need volunteers for 2020 and would like to speak to anyone that can spare some time to help us in 2020. Now is the perfect time to come along and see how people perform roles at our club without the challenge of the season ramp up. Having been a part of the club committee for 5 years – I can attest to how amazing it is to see the kids smile on a Sunday knowing you have helped make that happen. Please contact your team manager or any member of the committee if you would like to discuss options and roles. Without people stepping up to help in 2020 it will become harder to do what we want and need to do. Please help. Jason 0404433539 – Jason.nicholl@hamptonrovers.com.au

Safe & Happy Break
This weekend brings the part of the season Mr Football (Paul Carrigan) has nightmares about – the holiday break. For Caggs, no footy is hard to take. For all of our players and members that are travelling please have a happy and safe trip and we will see you next when it starts up again. For those remaining bayside there will always be groups keen for a kick and a run around during the week so keep your ear to the ground. See you all next Sunday.

Passion, Teamwork, Fun and Respect

Kind Regards

Jason
