Hello Rovers Families,
This week is the National Volunteer Week, Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers. The theme for National Volunteer Week this year is Recognise. Reconnect. Reimagine. That is to:
- Recognise, celebrate and thank volunteers for the vital role they play in our lives,
- Reconnect to what is important by giving our time to help others and ourselves, and
- Reimagine how we better support volunteers and communities they help.
We are a club run 100% by volunteers. Without the support that we receive from our parent volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to get our kids out on the park every week. To all of our volunteers – our coaches and assistant coaches, our team managers, our umpires, our timekeepers, to our water carriers, our umpire escorts, our photographers – thank you!
I’d also like to send a massive thanks to our current committee and sub-committee volunteers. Without you, it would be impossible to run this great community-based club. With the 2020 season not running, it’s great to see our community spirit alive and a buzz around the club again.
While on the subject of volunteers – I have a request. As you know, I volunteer in the role of Junior President. But I’m also Acting Secretary. We have more than 800 parents associated with the Hampton Rovers Juniors, but I haven’t been able to confirm anyone to take on the role – so I’m doing both. If you are able to dedicate one to three hours per week during the footy season, please contact me for a copy of the role description and a chat.
I’d also like to thank Caggs (Paul Carrigan – Head of Football) for doing a great job in organizing specialised training for our volunteer U8 to U12 coaches. BD Sports Coach Development have run sessions over the past couple of weeks, and they have been brilliant. I attended one of the sessions with our coaches. In only a couple of hours, I learned a whole range of new skill drills and training methods that will certainly help the kids in these younger age groups. Check out Caggs’ report for more details of this fantastic initiative.
Thank you again to all of our volunteers. You all rock.
Have a great weekend – filled with passion, teamwork, fun and respect.
Go Rovers
