When I was contacted by the club about the possibility of building a new Rovers website dedicated to the Juniors, I jumped at the chance. Hampton Rovers is a big club and to have the Seniors and Juniors represented in the one website was becoming tricky.
The brief was fairly open but the main intention was that upon viewing the website, parents (and kids) could immediately see the latest news, upcoming events and most importantly, their team page with details of future games, match reports and various contacts associated with each team.
Once the website was built at the end of 2016 and as the season commenced in 2017, we seriously ramped up the club’s social media presence so we could engage both parents and kids. I look after the Juniors Facebook page and Instagram posts, update the website’s blog posts and match reports so it remains relevant each week and I help edit the weekly newsletter.
I’ve been designing WordPress websites for around 4 years now. I have 2 boys who have been with Rovers since their Auskick days; they now play in the Under 13 and Under 16 sides. Just quietly, both have won a Premiership so they could probably retire now…a little bit like Richmond did around 35 years ago…
