Message from the Head of Football
Congrats to everyone on a fabulous 2023 season. No matter whether your team made it to the finals or not, it was a great footy season for all involved!
For those that are playing in the finals, it is important to be aware of some important rules. We know that finals can bring about a new level of pressure and nervousness – for players, coaches, officials and supporters – but it is also essential to play fair and by the rules. Poor behaviour, including any directed to the umpires, will not be tolerated.
The SMJFL By-Laws have been amended for the 2023 Finals Series. Penalties will be doubled for reportable offences, including against umpires, that occur during the finals. We want to ensure that all kids have a safe, supportive and inclusive environment. This also extends to the umpires, 85% of which are under the age of 18. So support the umpires and each other.
Looking ahead to 2024 – if you are interested in coaching a Hampton Rovers Juniors team next season, we would love to hear from you! Expression of Interest nominations will be sent out shortly. Please consider if this is a way that you would like to contribute to your footy club. The Hampton Rovers Juniors Committee will then consider all nominations, with appointments communicated in late September.
