Under 10 Girls vs Mordi Brae (R8)

25 June 2019 by HRJ

UNDER 10 GIRLS v MORDIALLOC BRAESIDE (R8)
JUNE 23, 2019
BY SEAN BRADY

The girls returned to the home of football, Boss James Reserve, for the clash against Mordialloc Braeside. The warm-up commenced inside the rooms before running onto the ground as one as the fog was starting to rise.

Jazzey T was welcomed to the team for her first game of football as Audrey P and Jazzey C were announced as captains for the day.

Mark Parker was on debut as our team umpire and right from the first bounce it was clear that the Rovers girls had come to play. Tilly and Jazzey led from the front in the middle and were well supported by Jess T and Sienna as they bombed the ball into our forward line on regular occasions. Jess W was once again running around up forward and looking more dangerous than Erin Phillips. She was able to yank another $5 out of Leigh as she slotted our first major of the day. Bianca, Poppy and Audrey P were feeding off Jess’s determined play and if not for some inaccurate kicking and close attempts, we could have finished the quarter with a few more goals. Jazzey T must have thought footy is pretty easy as she stood in defence. She was well supported by Jasmyn who along with Tess and Lily thwarted any forward thrusts by the Mordy girls.

Our backs were happy to be moved up the ground for the second quarter so they could unthaw a bit by seeing more action. Jasmyn was joined in the middle by Tilly, Jess W and Lily and the experience of our senior players was evident as they continued to keep the statisticians under the pump with our inside 50 count. Jazzey C, Sienna, Tess and Jazzey T were up forward and all ready to pounce. Jazzey C was rewarded for her gut busting running as she kicked our 2nd 6 pointer of the day. Once again, our defenders didn’t see a great deal of action but were able to stop most of the forward thrusts of the opposition who were starting to move the ball more freely.

The fresh oranges were enjoyed by all and Jasmyn had a big smile on her face at the main break as she saw her name in the forward line to start the premiership quarter. She was rewarded for her brilliant reading of the play with 2 goals for the quarter and along with Sienna, Jess T and Lily was able to lock the ball in our forward line for most of the term. Jazzey C, Poppy, Audrey P and Bianca worked hard in the middle to give first use of the pill to our forwards. Jess W, Tilly, Jazzey T and Tess were right in the pockets of the Mordy girls to quell most of their attempts to score.

The girls jogged into the three-quarter time huddle and were all asked to leave nothing in reserve as we looked to have a big final quarter to round out a great day. Jasmyn was back on the ball and Jess, Lily and Jazzey T all displayed great teamwork to keep the ball heading towards the Rovers goals. Jazzey T had really started to get with the flow of the game and it was great to see her winning taps in the ruck in her first 4 quarters of footy. Bianca led our backline and was very well assisted by Jess T, Sienna and Audrey P who continued to display tremendous defensive pressure. Enter the Jazzey C and Tilly show. They both marked strongly and swooped on loose balls and ended the quarter with 2 goals each. This was great reward for the team after all had put on a great 4 quarter effort. Tess, who played her best game of the season, was ever so close to kicking her first career goal with one of the tall Mordy girls getting a fingernail to one of her shots right on the goal line. Poppy, who has kept improving strongly over the past few weeks, also had her best game for 2019 which was great to see.

The girls sung the song with great enthusiasm and passion and awards for the day went to Jazzey T (a strong debut), Poppy (best game of 2019), Tilly (great 4 quarter effort and 2 big goals), Jazzey C (hard running and 3 big goals for the day). It is great to see the improvement in each and every one of the girls who all look to be absolutely loving their football.
