Under 10 Purple vs Waverley Park Hawks (R7)

28 May 2018 by HRJ

It was a week for the forwards this round. Playing against a less experienced team the boys were able to keep the ball in the forward half for most of the game.

The pleasing aspect about the game today was not the score or the result but how the boys shared the ball around with the use of handball. We discussed it at training and worked on it with some drills and then they were able to implement it during the game.

The first term saw Miles Cooper, Sonny Gittus and Josh Marshall all looking dangerous in the forward line kicking us 5 goals for the quarter.

It was then Paddy Wilson and Will Boyd-Turner who hit the scoreboard in the second term.

Then Jaxen put in a bid for goal of the year in the third quarter with a great snap from the pocket and Lachie Nolan helped out with another couple.

With the game looking like it was all ours the final term saw us spraying them everywhere kicking three points and putting a few out of bounds. We just couldn’t quite get one through the big sticks.

Goals: Miles Cooper 2, Sonny Gittus 2, Paddy Wilson 2, Lachie Nolan 2, Josh Marshall, Will Boyd-Turner, Jaxen Gordon.

Our award winners this week were Josh Meikle who is one of the kids that listens to what I am asking the team to do and tries to implement it. Today his handball brought his teammates into the game and opening up the game for the rest team. All night at training this week Jaxen Gordon was in my ear telling me he wanted to kick a goal and he could not have delivered one much better than his snap from the pocket. Sonny Gittus has strung together a couple of good weeks of football and today he topped that off with two goals and was always dangerous when in the forward line. And, Miles Cooper played another great game for us. The other team couldn’t touch him when he got the ball.

It was a great team game by all the boys today and it was a real demonstration of how we are improving as a team.
